...never heard anything good about fitzgerald gliders

 

Just a truck i am putting older engine in

 

... isn't it considered glider ?!

 

Well that is the subject of a lot of debate.

Federally you're not supposed to put an older engine into a newer emissions truck. That is something that technically you are not supposed to do.

With that being said there are a lot of people that do it and apparently they haven't had a lot of problems with DOT. I am not sure how or if the federal problem will be a problem.

But the actual gliders that are manufactured as gliders are really the only trucks that are allowed to have the older engines. The title itself shows that they are a glider truck.

 

Not technically. The VIN will usually have "G" or another digit (or string of them) indicating its a glider.

 

I personally have been inspected 5 times and concern never been raised ...last time 2 weeks ago in GA i was pulled on the weight station due to the overweight on trailer (1100lbs) and had level 3 , young officer asked about logs and when i showed him paper logs only question he asked me : what is the year of the engine ? ...while holding my registration for 2010 truck ... didn't even pop the hood to check

 

That's what I'm saying with inspections it doesn't seem like there's a lot of problem.

The issue is that you're not allowed to put an engine in an emissions truck that doesn't have the emission systems on it that it came from the factory with. That is a federal situation. Completely separate from inspections.

I don't know if you would ever have a problem with it but technically it is against federal law.

 

I’ve got a w9 435k on it and not a single issue

 

I have a buddy with a Fitz Coronado he bought brand new back in 2015. It has a Clark motor in it and has given him 5 years and counting of reliable service and excellent fuel economy. Still looks like a brand new truck too he shines on it every weekend.

 

I believe Fitzgerald gliders were very good trucks at first. The last couple years they went drastically down hill. I had a friend buy a 389 right at the last upgraded to a 3406E and the head gasket started leaking almost immediately. Turned out many of the seals and gaskets weren’t even new and his block was rough and pitted where the gasket went. Fitzgerald didn’t give a hoot.
