sup yall's we recently purchased an 01 international with the cummins motor. (has 3 individual heads) beyond that im not to knowledgeable since this is my first semi. the other morning i fired it up to move it out of the way while we started harvest. it fired up just fine ran for about a minute and a half and shut off. i've tried firing it up a few times and it just cranks over. i replaced the fuel filter and used these rubber caps to prime a the pump im guessing (its what i was told to do) and i still get nothing. when i turn the key on and the gauges set themselves the volt meter reads at about 10.5volts but it turns the motor over with no problem. im wondering if its not enough power to run the computer system possibly? anyways i really appreciate any input that would help me out. sorry for being the NOOB

N-14, do you have any check engine or shutdown lights come on? Sounds like a bad wire off the batteries to the ecm, does the voltage indicated drop while you are cranking?

Electrical problems shut them down pretty fast. Could be that or something else.

Engine wont shut down till down to 8v. are there any fault lights up? do the check eng lights come up when key turned on? If not check fuses for ECM usually in batt box and earth fuse at rear of ECM. Could be a fuel pump or solinoid issue.

there are no lights that come on when you have the key in the run position. after you put it in the run position it beeps at you for about 15 seconds. the battery terminals look like they could use a good cleaning. there isnt any corrosion build up or anything but they arent the cleanest lookin batteries i've seen. i didnt look to see what the voltage does while cranking. ill check that tonight. where is the ecm located. i see all the fuses.

any corrosion or one bad battery will cause this on a N-14, bet the fuses are not blown, also look at the motor to frame ground cables, been there done this on N-14's can be the ECM

International is the only o.e.m. That uses a 3 wire harness to power and ground the ecm at the starter.look for a black plastic connector near the starter.2 of the wires will go to 12v post on starter. The other to ground.also check for fused wires in battery box in case previous owner already had problem and got rid of connector and wired directly to batteries as it should have been done from factory.

well we cleaned the batteries and it started and ran for about 3 seconds and shut back off. ill check the cables at the starter tomorrow. i know there was one with with an inline fuse in it at the glove box. ill check them out and see if i can get a couple pics.

also the low fuel light came on but the gauge says half tank and i know theres plenty of fuel in it
