Do you know why your glucose levels are high?

 

He can't drive truck with an a1c over 10 anyway. Get on insulin long enough to get the a1c down to livable levels then switch to something like metformin.

If he doesn't get it under control soon, being able to drive a truck will be the least of his worries.

 

I use the old fashioned "prick your finger" test.
There's a new one now that sticks to your skin like a small band-aid, and you check it with your smart phone.

 

Taking insulin can create a low blood sugar level and that is more dangerous than a high level.

When you are taking insulin, checking levels is imperative.

The OP should find out why his a1c is high in the first place, could be many medical reasons. For example the pancreas produces insulin. Is it producing enough? if not why? Are the cells accepting what is being sent? ETC,
Its not just cutting out sugar and exersizing although that usually helps.

 

Ihave 1 of those new ones but haven't tried it yet. You get a meter with it but you can use your i phone

 

I tried one the diabetes class provided. It will stay on about two weeks and that's showering every day. At least, that was my experience. It can be reapplied though, easily.
Mine was on my arm, but some prefer the stomach or side.
