Though I would save you a phone call. LS pays:

    • Company Flatbed / Stepdeck (73% of 100%) with weekly trailer rental fee
    • Company Stretch / Double Drop Trailer (74% of 100%) with weekly trailer rental fee
    • Trailer Rental Fees: Flatbed ($155 / Week), Stepdeck ($170 / Week), Extendible ($185 / Week), *Double Drop ($260 / Week) * There is usually a waiting list for stretch and double drop trailers.
    • Own Van Trailer (72% of 100%)
    • Own Flatbed or Stepdeck Trailer (73% of 100%)
    • Own Refrigerated Trailer (75% of 100%)
    • Own Specialized Trailer including double drop, tri-axle, insulated van with heater (74% of 100%)
    • Own Heavy Haul Trailer (4 or more axles) Trailer (75% of 100%)
Note: All the percentages are 1 (one) percent less for the first 120 days of signing on with Landstar.

Most don't understand that the cheap stuff is posted so that it goes to broker side and is posted on the TS call boards.

Most brokers take 10 to 20% off the top. With your own trailer and figure 7% goes to the agent Ls is getting 19% for themselves, even less after you figure 100% of the fuel SC goes to the truck.

With you own authority you broker a $1000 load from LS you get $800. if leased to LS you get $666 plus the FSC of say $100 so you get $766, or $34 less than using your own authority.

Yes they take 35% if you use their trailers, trailers are not free.

where did you see me say I pulled their load for $1.10? I sure didn't say it.
what I said is that is what the rates on the board are going to CA.

ya ya, I know. All the old timers who never have to look at the board have a different outlook. But us newer guys have no choice, I call agents up and down and I have yet to EVER have one of them call me back with a load even though an hour later I might see them post one on the board. That happens more often then I care to think about.

Landstar is two different companies. it's one company for all the old timers who've been around long enough to get called with the good loads, and it's another company all together for everyone else who has to pick up the scraps.

Sure, nobody forces you to run the cheap crap. But if you don't run it you won't be running anything because that's all there is.

Like I said in your other thread. I'm not a critic. I love the idea of landstar. I'm disapointed in the way it's turned out though. One thing I think would make a world of difference is if Landstar required the agents to post ALL loads on our load board for a period of time before they are allowed to put them on outside boards. I truely feel many agents who get the good paying loads never put them on our board and immediatly broker them to an outside carrier for a much cheaper rate thus allowing them to pocket more then they would be allowed if they gave it to a BCO

I've never worked at Landstar but have heard many times that it is a Good Ol' Boy system as described here. Also heard many times that almost all agents have several trucks and cherry pick the best freight for themselves. Good work if you can get it......

I want to thank everyone for there input! Landstar requires hazmat, which I do not have, and I do not want! I have friends leased to Landstar, and have known about them for some time! I live in Minnesota, but really would like to find an outfit in the southern region, but won't pass up something here! Ya'll be safe out there!

Yeah, that hazmat thing is something I had when a company driver, but don't want to deal with it as an O/O.

    Good luck!
