Thing is its a lifestyle folks, not a job. If i wanted a job punching a clock making someone else rich, I would go back to my old job. Last year was a mediocre year. I only logged about 150 or 160 days on the books. Bills all paid and living decent. How many employers can I do that at?
Now I have been diversifying over a few years outside of trucking. But I drive, own, maintain, and operate my own truck and trailers.
How much was is your truck?

I know it but isn’t it just sad! The depreciation is such bs. Cars same thing, you trade it get 6k for it, next person buys it for 8k and drive off the lot worth 5k lol.Coffey Thanks this.

Wow you had over 200k cash just sitting around?! I’m guessing you been an o/o for a while. Eventually my goal would be to get that financially sound. But being a current company driver trying to buy a first truck it would take me umm let’s see 33.33 years
I’m 37 now so I’d be dead by the time I’d have that cash as a company driver lol

Unions suck glad I live in the Midwest where there is barley any. I don’t need benefits my wife has a great job with great Benefits. I don’t plan on living long enough to retire not to mention Being only 37 there will be no retirement for my generation. I’m guessing we will also collapse before I’m retirement age anyway lolSpeed_Drums and Coffey Thank this.

Prostar haha ugliest cheapest pile of junk ever created. Intertrashonal as I call them are definitely a dime a dozen but are only worth a penny a dozen. International in the old days were ok but not anymore. Only owner operators that run them were flip flops and drive a camel majority of life. Lol sorry had to.OldeSkool Thanks this.

Exactly. It’s not that you can’t make an ok living as a company driver and guys that are content doing so that’s great for them. Unfortunately some of us crazies have entrepreneurial spirt, business minded tendencies and we love eat and breath trucking that is myself. I know 100% that this was Gods plan for me. Excel for growing up on my fathers livestock farm the only jobs iv had were driving a truck or working for a dealership selling truck parts. To be honest I would be perfectly fine with only making 10k more a year than I do as a company driver. It would be more fulfilling for me to be the boss run my own business and have the truck I wanted run where and when I want to and know if I don’t make it that it’s on me. I have always succeeded more when it’s more on myself.Casimir66, exhausted379, Speed_Drums and 2 others Thank this.

Lol I agree they are. I wouldn’t personally own one, but they are cheap.hannafarms Thanks this.

I agree. Runing in your own equipment is not for everybody. Some days I don’t think it’s for me either but the idea of getting a regular job sounds even worse.Casimir66, Coffey, OldeSkool and 1 other person Thank this.

Owning a truck wasn't for me on Monday. $1500 repair bill. It was, however for me the next 3 days, $1650,$1300,$700. That repair was my first one not done by me in 6 months or more.
I live by the @jamespmack philosophy above.Speed_Drums, God prefers Diesels and SteveScott Thank this. -
why are you stranded, there’s no Nickels and dimes it’s $50 and $100s but after a year you should have the truck pretty much completely gone through unless you are using Chinese parts or half assing repairsCasimir66, Coffey and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
