Dang, I’m lucky. My wife is a saver. She’ll do things like save her money and surprise me with a trip to Jamaica, or give me the money I need for a down payment on a pickup truck. She’s a first grade teacher who only makes $40,000/year.
And yes, of course, separate checking accounts and assigned responsibilities for bills.born&raisedintheusa, bryan21384, 650cat425 and 2 others Thank this. -
I believe the late, GREAT Jerry Reed said it best,,

This is one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard said. Where's the marriage law book? I want to see where it says married couples HAVE to have joint accounts.
I take care of all the bills and run the business. I have the business accounts and my personal accounts. My wife has her account. Now, she has a job and she buys the groceries and the household stuff and I pay all the rest. I do transfer her money when it's time to order dog food. But to say a couple has to have joint accounts is just an ignorant statement. My wife is on my accounts so that she can access them if something happens to me.
Guess what we never argue about,,, MONEY. Of course we don't argue about much of anything but if we do it's never about money.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 17, 2020

I see it like an addiction for some. Some people lack self control or have addiction issues with gambling or shopping. It can be acknowledged like adults and dealt with by separate accounts. Doesn't have to be the end of a marriage just because you acknowledge personal failings. 2 way street and all that.born&raisedintheusa, 650cat425, Gearjammin' Penguin and 2 others Thank this.

Definitely. I've seen people be compulsive spenders because of events that happened to them in their childhood. Instead of turning to drugs they spend money.
I'm just the type of person that believes it's my job as the man to financially take care of my wife and this is my way of doing it. I also don't believe in going shopping just to shop like some people do and that's not going to happen with my money. It's got better things to do. Every dollar I make is an employee and I put most of them to work. Lolborn&raisedintheusa, 650cat425, Gearjammin' Penguin and 1 other person Thank this. -
That’s exactly what the wife and I have. Our joint personal account and MY, farm/trucking account. Found out early in the marriage, you can get to many hands in the cookie jar.born&raisedintheusa, alds, 650cat425 and 3 others Thank this.
