Can you really make it as a solo driver. I just want to run solo, no training for me or teaming. I live in the northwest and i see them all over the roads here.

Talk to JJ Ranch and see how he is doing.
He is leasing a new Pete, and running solo. He could tell you what his fixed costs and break even is for each week. He has been going for at least a month now on it, so should have a good idea. I just hope he is putting away 25% of his gross for taxes.

    move on, stay company.

Only good owner operator program is LandStar, but you have to be the best, and properly maintain your truck.

When I was leaving central they were introducing the Volvo 780 or something, it was the bigger volvo, they started offering a 1yr lease, so you could "TRY IT OUT", I am guessing this was a genius who came up with this, as the first year in that volvo with that motor, you could expect much lower mpg. My belief is the company did this so they could then have 1yr old trucks, broken in and ready to roll.

    We have T2's, W9's, Pete's & Volvos.

99% of the company fleet is Volvo, there are some W9's & T2's in the company fleet as well... Just don't get your hopes up about getting one. The last batch of Volvo's we got should be our last, sometime this spring we should get our first shipment of International Prostar's in.

We also do have ONE Company Pete running around & that's only because that driver has been here 20+ years & he got his choice of trucks this time around.

    Baack Thanks this.

i leased from central and went solo was told at 3001 miles a week woul get $1083.00 around about, never saw that kind of $ i did get negative checks due to not enough miles they have no problem there the only way to really make $ is to become a trainer my advise is dont lease if you want to drive solo you will be very sorry you did i know i was, as a company driver i was treated good i loved my job but i made a mistake leasing so just think real hard about it and talk to other lease ops thx raiderfreak:biggrin_25513:

I tell people not to lease solo all the time.
The money is just not there and they payments are too much for the trucks.
You can buy one that you would own free and clear at the end of that 3 years for less money. Same exact truck. Brand new.
Own it in the time they have you lease it for the same money.
Want me to repeat it again lol.
No matter how many times we say it, people still think that it is the work ethic of the driver and the driver messing up. They think that the driver is being given the tools to do it, just that the ones that fail must have messed up.
All think that they will be one of the money making ones.
Sure, maybe 20% of the guys that lease and stay solo make some money. Maybe they even make 20% more than a company driver.
That would be about it though. And one big breakdown could end that.

Sorry to hear you had a hard time with it.
