Trucks are back here ALL the time....

the corn stalks are tied to the telly pole, right behind the 1ft curb, plus the lawn with a sign just out of pic letting trucks no to stay off their lawn,
plus the pick up truck to the left,
1, hit the pole
2. hit the lawn
3. hit the truck, tail-swing\
or just not deliver...
they finaly came to my truck, on the street to unload...

Good Job making them unld in the street.!!
YOU are the driver, YOU tell them what you can or cannot do, or are willing to do or not do.
YOU would get blamed if there is any/all damage, not them.
Keep up the good work.redoctober83, kajidono, simplyred1962 and 1 other person Thank this. -
You did good,
guess if they want their freight bad enough they will come and get it.redoctober83 Thanks this. -
Good Job. You did the right thing.
Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
Made that mistake before.
Pulled a communications tower from Ft Worth to Conneticut. Called the receiver and asked for directions and he gave me some directions that had me going up a mountain. He instructed me to drive down this 1 lane residential road, and bypass the address I was going to since it could only be accessed by blindside backing. (That doesnt sound good, does it?). He says to go all the way to the end of the road and I will see a big turn around area where buses turn around all the time.
I get there, start running up this skinny goat path, pass my address, road makes a right turn, right where the huge boulder hanging over half the road. I squeak by the boulder and get to the end of the road 2 miles down. Theres no turn around. Cant back out because of the boulder. I see this little worn down area where the buses have to be using (must have been some really small buses) and back my 53ft spread axle trailer through some trees. The back wheels are hanging off the edge of a cliff. It takes me an hour to get turned around. I get the hell out of there.
I get back to the main road and call the receiver and tell him that he's going to have to get his stuff on the street because I cant get to the site. He tells me that he's on his way. A daycab 8 axle lowboy rolls up pulling a crane. I flag him down.
Six: Lowboy! Dont go down that road! You will never get out!
Lowboy: Well, the guy told me that theres a big turn around at the end of the road and...
Six: No theres not! I barely got out of that goatpath! You wont make it!
Lowboy: Really? I guess I better check this one out on foot
So we walked up the road. Lowboy realized quickly that this was not a road that he would want to take his truck down. While we were walking through, a United Rentals truck came rolling passed. I tried to flag him down and he just waved at me. Well, maybe he can make it with a 3 axle daycab and 45 ft beavertail.
The construction crew shows up. The guy giving directions shows up and appologizes. United Rentals finally shows back up and he's cussing mad.
United Rentals: Someone told me that there was a big turn around at the end of this road! There isnt anything there! It took me an hour to get turned around!
Receiver: Yea...I found out. This driver (pointing at me) went down there too.
United Rentals: You took a road truck, with a 53 spread down that road and got out? Dude...let me shake your hand!Bengal and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
Unless it's another driver, take it for granted that neither the reciever, shipper or dispatcher knows what the hell they're talking about.
Canned Spam and redoctober83 Thank this. -
Come on people, you know you like a little adventure every now and then....that's why you got into trucking and what attracts the "cubicle clerks" to get a CDL, right?
-
Seriously S2B. You're nuts... You're all nuts for driving down these little roads.... I know I'm going to have to experience them sooner or later, but you love this stuff S2B? Crazy
Looks like I'll have to learn to love it to make it in this industry! -
Yup, love it when you call ahead and get told they have trucks back here all the time only to drive in and have them look at you and say "thats not the size of a UPS truck".
I do alot of residential deliveries and have no problem either leaving the truck on the main road with the 4 ways going while i walk it or just plain back it down the road as far as i can. Its alot easier to back it in to a point where you know you can still get out forward than not be able to back out at all. -
nothing beats the NE, its tuff!, challenging, and fun!, the tighter, the better...right....

lynch, when u get ur big-boy-trucker-pants on, and ball up and head out there, go do a 25 + stop run out of conover, into the ne, let me no how u like it.....i think everyone should have to take at least one run to boston, in a road cab, with a 53, itll make the rest of the country seem like cake work!
ps. shouldnt u be on ur way to missoula!?!?!?!? good luck!
