    With all due respect, I disagree. We've run the NW (WA, OR, MT, ID - etc) in the winter time. I'm originally from Washington State. Big rig or private car - you need chains, you should park it. We run 340 days year, otr and never once thrown chains.

    The company we're contracted to practices what it preaches "no chains for any reason other than to get you out of trouble to the nearest safe "haven" spot"

    I have never, ever spoken with a customer (shipper or receiver) that was upset because we were delayed due to parking in bad weather conditions. The opposite has been the case - being "thanked" for being "safe" and "protecting/safely transporting" their freight.

    Well, my 2 hr nap became a 4 hr nap.

    So I'm just gonna take another 6 and get going this evening.

    In Kentucky, heading for a Thursday drop in Dallas, TX.

    Tain seems to have finally stopped.

    Hard times, payments still come due. Got to make it how you can. Gas is cheaper-Del charges are up.

    That's where "nest eggs" or "savings" come into effect. Depending on your operation, even delinquent in payments - companies make sure at some point you get caught up. They want their money. ..... Now a bank is a different story. But if you run chains and get into an accident, you still gotta pay for that truck.

    Maybe find a "partner" (driver - mechanic) and consider renting a large roomy space. Do the same size-type work you are doing now. Ideally, partner would be able/like to do the things you are not adept at/like to do.
    Worked for me in the forklift business.

    The company we're contracted to - a lease or O/O can be few thousand in the hole & they make sure that you earn at least enough to pay your bill.

    Second - in this industry if you're a straight O/O you need to have more than one account anyways. You should have an account (independently/separately) for Maintenance, Reserve (savings) and Active (current expenses).

    We're classified as O/O - buying a truck. We have 5 accounts - two are held by the company (maintenance & reserve). The other 3 are with 3 different banks.

    Bank 1 pays "current" or "household" expenses
    Bank 2 pays non-payment Truck expenses
    Bank 3 is a secondary reserve (savings) account or emergency fund

    What happens to a straight O/O with no safety net when a turbo blows? Need a new transmission? Need to pay for a hotel for a night or two because truck's in shop? Or you don't make a pay check that week?
