Thats not that big if a deal. At the front the cab just tilts. It doesnt go up and down. So there isnt much movement to cause issues. Go look at a 379 unibunk and look at how close the cowl fits to the hood and how little damage you get there from contact. Mine is less than an inch with no contact. That shows how little the front moves back and forth.

Being a non-Unibilt structure on yours now, doing the bigger opening isn't a big deal. I did my 78 A model this winter. Bought the Unibilt rings and boot, measured about 50 times and started mowing the back of the cab out. I cut the height of the rings 7.5" so i didn't interfere with the roof cap as they're fiberglass on the A model.
Results were well worth it to me... very comfortable in there now. -
What I meant was mine was such an expensive truck to just sit and not be making me money. It was/ is a numbered '87 and I just couldn't see continuing to use it and wear it out. The guy I traded with will only drive it maybe 10k miles a year.rank Thanks this.

Is there a difference in rings from flattops to stand ups?

There is a difference between unibilt regular cab and a ultracab.
