Hey everyone,
I have had my CDL A for over 20 years. Drove OTR in the early 90's. My most recent experience is a local company running AZ,CA 3 years ago and I drove for them for 7 months, both van and flatbed.
I am looking for any kind of work. Solo, team, local regional, otr, whatever.
I have applied to so many companies. I keep getting told we are not hiring in your area or you don't have recent experience.
Then I was told a couple of times to take a 40 hour refresher course. I don't have the money for that!
If anyone knows someone that is hiring, please let me know.
The list I have applied to is very long so I will only list some of them.
Not enough experience or not in your area:
Gordon
Arrow
Heartland
JB Hunt
Schneider
USA Truck
May
Prime
CRST
That is all I have since I started writing them down. I know there are more.
Take care, Larz

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

The only advice that I can give you is to look for a small company to work for. They seem to be a little more lenient than the bigger companies which seems to boil down to insurance issues. You can ask if you can just ride with a trainer for a few weeks instead of taking a refresher course. Best of luck to you. I know the feeling of trying to hunt down work as of recent.

Thanks. I have been trying that as well. Not really sure where to look, but have my eyes open.
onetime42 Thanks this. -
I just tried to PM this to you but for some reason this forum insists that you have at least 50 posts first before they allow you to do so. Even then you can only send messeges to a select few so here goes:
I know that you mentioned Schneider in your list of companies that told you no but I just got hired on to them for their tanker division and they were very lenient about me having taken 6 months off while I was on the hunt for work. I have tons of experience but I did have quite a bit of down time in the process. I would call them back and explain your situation to them in great detail again. Best of luck sir.Last edited: Sep 27, 2009

Thanks. I will do that tomorrow.

If you are hard up for work try Heritage Trucking ... they do dirt work in arizona and new mexico. Trucks are slow and old. And their pay sucks, but a job is a job.

I applied to them but never heard from them. Thanks though...

To everyone that tried to help, thank you! I got a job and start Monday night!
