Do'nt worry, just take it to the schl. They will know what to do. They're foing to ask for it anyway and just tell them you do'nt have a copy of the card.

After reading this im going tomorrow to get my medical card.
-
That is so true. it pay to keep your card up to date. -
I should have stated that your statement of " Your CDL is not valid unless you have a current medical card. IN ANY STATE" is not true. Some states require a medical card no matter what you drive and some only require a medical card if you drive a CMV. It's confusing but there is a group like myself that want to keep their CDL and don't go to the doctor because we're retired or whatever. I would hope everyone knows they must have a medical card when driving commercially. If not maybe they shouldn't be there. But the fact that this question has been raised before about if you need a medical card when you renew your CDL brought on my statement about your incomplete one. Sorry.

That's right and that's way I made the statement. Plus there has been talk that the FMCSA wants to make it a requirement when renewing your CDL which would make all states just like AZ and the drivers that don't drive anymore would have to either give up their CDL or get a medical card. Thanks.

When I retire, I will keep my CDL as well. My state does not require the medical card in order to retain it as well.
Some of the other states I have heard require the card or the license is down graded upon issue or not issued till the card is presented.GasHauler Thanks this. -
here in WI, if you dont have a FedMedCard, your allowed to drive INTRASTATE CMV only. Something about 'grandfathering' or something.
I renewed my CDL in 8/09 and my DOT physical was to expire in 10/09. So they put OK on the renewal but also listed the expire date.
Come 10/09, I had my DOT physical (real place, not some family DR) and then called the WI DMV. Asked them if I needed to do anything since I know the computer listed me as OK until 10/09.
The rep told me that they EXPECT the driver will renew this and deal with it and there is no reason they need to add the new expire date into their system. They did tell me NEVER to drive INTERSTATE w/o this card or with an EXPIRED card.
Umm..that should be common sense but...
I am not driving CMV at the moment but expect to soon, so I wanted to keep things up to date. Besides, my insurance allows 1 physical per year and this year I just made it the DOT one. No charge. Can't beat that.

You don't want to give it since it was such a pain to get in the first place. I did give up my hazmat because of all the cost and such but that's not a big deal. The extra $20 bucks every two years is worth it to me so if there's a new law that would upset me as I'm sure it would you too. -
The cost of retaining my CDL after retirement versus down grading to a regular license is substantial.
The cost per renewal is 60 for the CDL, 10 for the regular license.
