For the most part you are treated better than in the dry van/reefer world. The dispatchers are pretty good about sending preplans before you even get empty, if not it will pop up as soon as you send your empty call. The exception to this seems to be whether you are close enough to a terminal that you are expected to check in with them.

I would call the consignee and see if you can deliver early unless there are explicit instructions in the QC load info saying not to call them. I have delivered up to 2 days earlier than appt time. Just depends on the consignee. In time you will learn which ones those are.

It's alright. It's a 2018 has 430,000 miles on it but it seems like it was well taken of. Maintenance guy said it's due to get replaced soon. But it's nice. Has more room in it then my previous freightliner or volvo I had at other places. Pulls great with that cummins x-15. Don't know what they have in the newer trucks. They're not equipped with Apu or bunk heaters but you can idle.

Newer trucks have the Paccar engine. Don't know how they pull 80K, but they sure are quiet and smooth.

On a load from Turlock, Ca to Hillsboro, WI. Got my first actual paycheck and it was good. I’m not sure that my truck is supposed to be governed at 75, but for now I’ll take it. Even passed a few bull haulers in South Dakota on I-90. Never thought I’d see the day. Gotten used to dealing with the surge, even though it’s an automatic so trying to control it is useless. But it hasn’t been as horrible as I thought. But my back isn’t screwed up yet either. They seem to pretty much leave you alone here except with load info which is nice.

Once you can anticipate the impact, the surge is not that bad. Just make sure you lean forward out of the seat so only your butt is in contact with it and raise one arm in the air like a rodeo bull rider. :D

IRT hauls Alpha Pinen and Dilimaline a citrus oil product that is flammable. They sometimes unload here in Panama City at Kraton chemical.

I've been seeing at least one placarded tanker parked at the yard here in Clovis a week. I knew we haul HAZMAT and even I keep mine maintained, but I kind of tripped out seeing that for the first time.
