We have never done anything like that. Swaps like that are generally cost prohibitive at the dealer level. There are no commercially available cross over harnesses, so that would all be custom made. Current generation of electronics may not work due to different datalink speeds in addition to having to fabricate mounts and brackets for everything. Not saying it can't be done, just never heard of it being done.

I hear ya. Thank you for the reply. You've explained it very well. The company I called that makes custom harnesses makes just about every kind you can think of, except one like this, haha. Might be (probably) time to put this idea to bed. And yet, it's so hard to put it down. There's gotta be a way...
Thanks again!

Might be better off buying a wrecked truck with the ISX and do a swap with that.

Thank you, it's definitely beginning to lean that way, I'm just so fixed on making it work. Mostly because I've already got a perfectly good 3406E ready to go, but alas, the question is quick becoming do I have the time and money...

If I might take a little more of your time, what do you suspect the issue is on a Maxxforce 15 running beautifully bobtail, then being "unable to pull your hat off" when hooked up? Won't go over 25 mph. It's been a real drain, literally and figuratively. I wonder if I'm overlooking a sensor. Seem like it should be pretty straightforward, but not so.
No codes, every filter has been changed, EGR has been checked and cleaned, etc. For the most part, the truck's been taken apart and put back together. It's got less than 200k miles! Anyway, it's been a real mystery, but you've been referred to here as "the most knowledgeable man on Internationals," I hope you can solve it!
Regards either way. -
Since these are computer controlled, the laptop is the first tool I grab. The engine probably is logging something, but just not yet at the threshold to actually trigger the warning light. But, I would road test it with the laptop connected to see what the boost, fuel and exhaust back pressures are. Weak fuel pumps are one of the things that behave like this. Under full load, the engine needs about 32,000 psi of fuel pressure, but the pump can't make it anymore. Since bobtail only needs about 10,000 psi, the truck runs better unloaded. Again, only having a laptop connected can tell you this.

No way would there have been enough movement to suffice the supply they'd have had on hand. CAT threw up their arms in frustration with EPA demands. And they fought. Remember the pre ACERT engines? They came with a sticker on the block that said they'd paid a fine to market those engine and announcing that they did not meet emissions demands. What they did was implement their reply by making it run hotter. The fan clutch wouldn't even engage until 225°. And it couldn't be upped to 550hp, only 525hp.
CAT backed away from a huge market due to unreasonable demands made upon the diesel combustion motor. And look what's happened. Gone are the 1,000,000 mile engines. We've got Cummins' poorly honed (user does the final grinding) 50/50 chance engine doesn't need rebuilding at 350,000 miles unless it throws a rod through the side of the block. And then there's their Progressive Warranty which states they'll pay for the first thing that breaks in the chain. Everything after that is the user's responsibility. And that part is likely their pitting camshaft, so you can deduct $6,000 from a turned main bearing that's dropped a rod and scored lining from a $30,000 rebuild on, say, a 600hp 2050ft/lbs engine. Nope, the EPA kicked the sh_t out of CAT. Not poor business decisions.
Sorry to beat an old horse. Sadly missed.Lookunderthetruck Thanks this.
