I'm in Germany now since Nov. 13th, we had a lot of struggle the last weeks. Five days before our flight, the transmission of our beloved Tahoe gave up, didn't go into reverse
Had to get a rental car a few days earlier, just added some $$$.
We had a really bad flight with crying kids all night and were so tired.
When we arrived in Frankfurt, we took a Covid-19 PCR test at the airport, you pay for a quick result, but 5 hours later we got the email, NEGATIVE!
In Germany we had rented a house for a few weeks, but we had to go to a hotel before we could go into the house. Germany prohibits hotel stays for tourists (we are not tourists) but no hotel would rent as a room for two nights, only for business travelers due to corona restrictions. How stupid is that?
Plan B was to sleep in the car, but it's ####ing cold here.
So we took plan C, we went over the border to France, had a nice hotel with good food for two nights. Legal? Not really, but when I called the lady, she said you don't have to sleep in the car.
After 33 hours on our feet we finally could sleep, the two hours from Frankfurt to the hotel in France was a nightmare for me, my wife had to keep me awake while I was driving.
On Sunday afternoon we could finally move in the house where we are right now, today we had an appointment to register our official address here, tomorrow our car will be registered I bought two days ago, we will pick it up on Friday. As we have a nice rental car here, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, we decided we buy one, but it's a 2006 with about 110,000 miles. A 3.0 liter V6 Diesel, pulls better than my 5.7 Liter Tahoe
Tomorrow we have another appointment to get our German driver's licenses back, you can order an express processing, just takes a few days instead of weeks. This weekend we will try to get a travel trailer and we hope we're done with everything till the end of next week and we can leave Germany.
Our pets arrived Monday the 16th, we picked them up at Frankfurt airport, they are all doing well, this was the most expensive part of our move, about $13,000 with the fees in Germany.
So far the most things went as we had planned, let's see how we get into Spain as they have some restrictions due to Covid, but I know some roads away from the usual routes, they can't control every road and we will have a four wheel drive.
Our house was listed last week Wednesday and we already had a very good offer on Monday we agreed, if everything goes well it will be sold in January
I will keep you updated on our adventureaustinmike, njt1313, Knucklehead and 11 others Thank this. -
