That's nice but you aren't running 200 miles loading / unloading and being home in 4 hours. Lets be realistic here. Not to mention pre-post trips getting fuel ect..ect.. 200 miles local and dealing with traffic and everything else getting the cars from the auction, port dealership whatever it's still gonna be a 6hr day easily.

It's not worth the liability to run for $200/day profit at least not to me.. Not to mention wear on equipment., insurance costs and so on. You have to make way more than $2/mile to run locally.

Me, I'd rather do runs like I just did. I left Monday from ORL went to Birmingham, AL dropped Tuesday. Picked up and came back, dropped in Daytona and I'm home again. 3.5 day trip.

Monday I'll do it again to where ever I can put a load together that's in my little 1.5 day radius.

I mean don't get me wrong the loads are paying absolute ####, I won't even pretend they aren't but it's that time of the year. I'd rather do the 1.5 days run out and back in. Run 3 to 3.5 days and be done for the week vs running every day locally.

Local is great if you can make it work, but $200/day isn't gonna cut it long term. Soon as something breaks or whatever..

I was using your 200 mile example. I didn't claim to run 200 miles for $200 profit a day. I don't even start my truck for $200 a day.

But let me show you an example for a "local" load i did this week:
Light load, 4 units, one pick, 2 drops. 260 miles for $1100. From entering the port gate to last drop in 8 hours.
When i run that little miles I charge a lot more than $2 a mile. $2 a mile is the min for 3 units 500+ miles and I mean $2 all miles, deadhead included.
500 miles is still local to me. I never come home same day I leave cause I pay $120 min in tolls just to leave my house and come back. 3 day minimum to make it worth it.

I don’t miss them tolls, I don’t miss that Port ! Do you stay at the Auction? Seems the logical place to crib out.

The Port of Baltimore is a dumpster fire. I feel bad for anyone taking loads in or out of there. Been there three separate times, had minor to catastrophic issues with loading or unloading every time. Never again PoB, you’ll never get me again

yea tolls suck. I sleep at truckstops only. I had someone try to steal my ramps while sleeping at an auction.

I had no issues at all. Got in, found my cars and strapped them on in 1.5 hours and left. i spend more time getting cars out of manheim auctions.

maybe they got their cars in order, but they sure as hell don’t have their farming equipment division in order.

So I’m there to get two skid steers, new units. They load one that is correct, the second unit they bring to me looks like it has 3000+ hours on it. Had an hour long debacle between me, the receiver, the ##### working at the port and the freight broker. The ##### working at the port brought me a unit that was supposed to be going OUT to Saudi Arabia. The serial numbers were the same minus the last few characters. She just didn’t bother to finish reading the trucking serial number!

Waited another hour to get the right unit loaded because the PoB is run by Neanderthals.

    Rant over

Always a issues at that port. When I had to go there I got a escort, they knew where to go and how to negotiate the process. 24hotshot knows the process I assume and can deal with it. I know picking up freight was no fun for me.

I know this guy that gets a lot of work done off he clock. Staying at the Auction. What a bummer, some half wit trying to lift your tools.
