If we have a heel there better be a good reason. And there will be a lot of questions. That goes for both chemical and fuels.

I almost got fired for bringing back a heel. Real thick anf gooey wster treatment polymer. Tank looked empty before I left customer. I guess what wss on the tank sides rolled down and collected on the bottom.
It just shocks me, considering what I was taught, that a driver would bring back product. -
Mistakes happen. I know a driver that brought back 900 gallons of gas. He had a three compartment trailer that night and he was used to pulling a two compartment set up. He completely spaced unloading the center compartment.
He offered to quit before we fired him but we figured he'd probably never do that again and he was normally a pretty good driver. We kept him. -
We are a little different in that we haul our own products. Lots of mini bulk work. And as drivers we are required to washout, load , and blend specialty blends.

Good stuff...you're more than a driver, driver.

Yeah no kidding. We might fill 10 tanks in a day and spend 3 hours on the load rack washing out and getting ready for the days work. Or we might have a quick load and go, and run a 500 mile turn and fill only 1-3 tanks. Some days I haul a combined 1000 gallons split between 3 compartments.

Is the pay commensurate with the added responsibility?

You guys keep calling it a heel. I called it residue. There's a big difference. A heel is gallons of product, where residue is a minimal amount of product. Our company's policy is, that the driver pulls into the pit. Cleans out his/her pump and opens the discharge to drain any remaining residue. Depending on the product there may be residue or there may not but we still have to check. Even after you empty the tank and walk out your hoses there's still residue left in the hoses. Maybe every company's policy doesn't require each driver to check for residue.spindrift Thanks this.

It’s a little shy of what I’d like to see it at. Only in the sense that fuel haulers are making the same as us around here. But I’ll still gross 6 figures
-
We do the same. We haul our own product. Some may be DOT regulated and some may not.Rugerfan Thanks this.
