    Thank you; not to sound like an idiot since I know nothing about tankers, but do you load yourself sometimes as well? I know you unload, just see where you were paid for, “live loading.”

    In the 8 years I ran tanker, I loaded the trailer myself exactly on time. Many times I had to pop open and/or secure the dome lid. And for sure even if I didn't have to secure the lid I was up there making sure everything was good to go. Live loading pay for us was just being there while it was loaded.

    No live load meaning pretty much what dry van does, waiting in bunk till your trailer will get loaded

    If you're running local hauling gas or diesel you'll load yourself most of the time. It's not difficult but it requires some focus.

    It all depends on what your hauling ... who loads.....

    gasoline and fuel you load yourself all the time.......

    chemicals they usually load you, most places won’t let you stay in the truck. You have to go to the safe area which is usually a S hole...

    Honesty I haven’t decided; the past couple months all I’ve wanted was to be back home after going home 4 days every month for the past 6 months, but I might change my mind and continue OTR after a break at least, if it’s worth it; I see they have some runs going to Canada with Trimac, that sounds pretty cool.

    I would also like to know what chem tank company (or food grade) is worth a flip to drive for now? Been doing regional tanker for a while now. Wanting to get back into long haul tanker work.

    When I first started food grade tankers I was very disappointed in the miles/money as well as the long waiting times to get loaded or unloaded and then there is the surge. I seriously looked at going back to dry van or reefer but didn't want to quit with less than 6 months.

    The miles and money have now increased to where I will stay with food grade for now, but thats not to say it pays any better than bumping docks.
