After several months without a single bad log audit from my new company, I suddenly had a brain drain and started trying to split break with the 8/2 thing. What I got were bad log audits, and bad safety points. Too many of those, and I'm looking for another company, if they will have me after that, so no more split breaking for me. Besides, I thought that a split break no longer stops your 14 hour clock and extends your day? At least that's what we've been told in log training for the H.O.S. rules. If that's wrong, maybe my company needs to go back for H.O.S. log training in the split break area. Those things aren't always needed, but when you do need one, they come in handy.

I supposed I should've mentioned that this conversation with KLLM's log dog was a result of my receiving a 14 hr violation after spending 6 hrs off duty (2 in the bunk, 4 on line 1) and then driving past my 14th hour that day thinking I had extended it 2 hours. He told me if I'd just stayed off duty for 2 more hours, even on line 1, I'd have been alright.

It looks like he/she was wrong a couple times (LIke someone else said the 2 can come first or the 8 can come first)

Anyhow: Above situation: You would have needed to be in the "SLEEPER" at least 8 hours (or longer) and that would extend your 14 hour clock. If you take a 2 hour break or longer it will not extend your clock (it will help push out the 14 hour clock the next go around to allow you to get your 11 hours of driving in). Once you have completed and 8 & 2 (whichever comes first) go to the END of the first break and count over 14 hours that is when your "NEW" 14 hour will end, if you have an 8 hour break from the "END" of the last break then count the # of hours in the "SLEEPER" and count over from the original 14 hour mark you just made. If you don't have 8 hours or more in the sleeper your 14 hour is the mark you made orgiganly. It is all pretty easy

All you do is look from the last working period if it follows an 8&2 hour break or a full 10 hour break whatever is prior to it is "TRASH" anything that is not cleared out is agains you or for you (being the 8 hr sleeper break, would be for you). So it is like a cup of water, once it is full and you get it half empty you can drink part of the water again as long as you don't go over the 11 oz of water or 14 oz of cool-aid! ####!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok beer~~~~~~
I don't know if this helped, but one day I will get some good examples up here for ya, I have been deaing with allot with my teenager girl and well my mind has been occupied! Ok good nite, I hope this tip helps a little

Remember if you ever want to lay an example out to help you learn; please do! Just give me from the time you started after your last 10 hour break! Give me like: Line 3 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. etc. This will help you learn and let me help you explain how to calculate the 11 & 14! Really this helps much more than the discussions! Both are great though! :toothy5:
