Any M.E. that does this as a routine is NOT following the instructions laid out by the DOT. While the medical Examiner's handbook on page 173 does not openly prohibit it, what I see is this deeper look depends on your reported health history and their exam and what they see. As I recommend on OSA if an M.E. does this go find another M.E.
You are right about the 90 days. This is because the blood cell they look at only lives for about four months. When they look at a blood cell they actually count the sugar molecules on the blood cell. This is your A1C. My last A1C was I believe a 5.8. This means they found an average of 5.8 sugar molecules when they did this count. I am really oversimplifying this test, but this was how my physician explained it to me.Another Canadian driver and Jenn72 Thank this. -
