I agree with those that say to bring a sleeping bag. I would bring at least a sheet also, use that to cover the lower bunk, then your bag to sleep in or under.
If all these guys would learn how to properly operate there bunk heaters it really does stay toasty in the truck.
And the last trucks without them should have been traded last year. Any truck number higher than 62000 will have a heater.
They take some tinkering to get use too, but they work really well.
I am guessing that the Internationals have them also, I know the Volvo's do. They are not that expensive for the amount of fuel they save. And engine mode on Icon / Tas will keep the battery's up.
Would I have preferred to idle when I was there, so the truck was not turning on and off while I slept? Sure.
But it is their truck and their fuel. So I followed their rules. I got my idle bonus every time as well, which helped with pay.
Use your curtains, they help allot with temperature management.Freeman.Liddell and spinner2jammer Thank this. -
I was wondering if you might tell what kind of money were you pulling in a week on average with central ?
TIA -
While OTR I was taking home 700-1300 a week.
While on Dedicated I was taking home 1000 a week, and thru home every weekend.
This was over a year ago though, so the freight has gone down, and they have more drivers for less freight. -
very , very true problem latley seems to finding an empty trl they keep buying trucks but no trls which is depleting their stock
-
I can say I love that about heartland so far. I have seen some guys looking for emptys, but so far I have had good luck and they have had 5+ empty trailers every place I go.
-
I'm glad that Heartland seems to be treating you so well. Having high hopes for ya.
-
I am hoping it goes well.
They have some things I do not agree with. I can understand them, but there are better ways to deal with it.
They are very tight on some tolls. No OH tolls allowed. No Indiana turn pike. NY is ok between set points. PA same way. They will not let you run between Pittsburg and Breezwood for instance. You have to go around on I-68. This is fine, if they are paying the miles to go that way. Sucks in bad weather though.
They will send out messages to park trucks in the snow and ice, if the area is getting hit hard you have to park.
Those things will hurt. But I can see the safety thing in it also.
They are debt free. So there is no chance they will go under any time soon, and they buy there trucks they do not lease them. All are 2007 and newer. All the 07 trucks will be traded by April. So at that point will be all Prostars.
The trucks are stripped out. Cheap steering wheels. Almost no cabinets for storage. No icon. No underbunk heaters or APUs.
If you idle a prostar more than 25% your top speed goes down to 63 mph. 35% you will be set at 60 mph. All that is automatic on the computer of the truck.
No inverters, and I mean none. Get caught with one and you are fired on the spot.
Those are the negatives that I know so far.
I think they would have saved allot of money having icon on the trucks and underbunk heaters. Actually I know they would save hundreds of thousands every winter. But I do not think the head of maintenance or the guy that orders trucks have ever heard of those systems.
