i am a driver for central. school consists of two weeks of classroom and on the range training to get your liscence. this is only to help you pass the tests and get the liscence what you learn here you will throw most of it out the window when you get on your trainers truck for 28 days. your trainer is going to teach you what really happens in the real world and how to actually do the job. this is where you really learn to drive and deal with the everyday problems that arise. at salt lake you spend the 1st week staying in the bunk house at the terminal. this is where the school is located. you do nothing but classroom work this week and get your permit
to drive. the second week they move you to the ramada about 5miles down the road (very nice accomidations) and shuttle you back and forth to the terminal for range traing where you learn to back and menuver the truck then you take the test to get your liscence. if you pass the next week you go out on the road with a trainer for 28 days. after completion of 28 days you go to a central terminal and do a upgrade test to see what you have learned. you also do another driving test and backing test if you pass that then you are issued your own truck. after 6 mo of no tickets, accidents or service failures i.e. late deliveries you are eligable to join one of the dedicated fleets ( coors, kraft, dole, hienz - new midwest fleet ) which i recomend doing better pay per mile and more dependable miles. any specific questions you may have just ask and someone here will answer them. we are all here to help.

i take it that you are a central driver yes the facility in conley is nice but the general area it is in is in one of the highest crime ridden areas of atlanta. i know i live about 20miles from it and have lived here my whole life i know what goes on in this area. i did invite realgonekat to come and tour the place the other day and see for himself what it is like down there. one thing we did discuss was you will probally do better in slc for these reasons. that is where our main terminal is better to learn that place and what goes on there than at a satellite term. second the teachers at slc are all experianced and have been there for years the guys teaching at conley are all brand new and are learning theinner workings of central them selves. third the training pad a conley is a gravel pit at the back of the yard they did not even black top the thing. when we were there the other day it was raining and the ga red clay was seeping up thru the gravel and the trucks were digging ruts and sliding all over the place not quality training if you ask me. and realgone seen this for himself. does conley have some advantages yes if you live in the area it is convinent and you dont have to swap your liscence from state to state. the classes are smaller right now which means more indvidualized training. also in slc you get to train in the mountains and snow which is very important .georgia does have some mountains but they are nothing compared to whats in utah. also no snow in ga better to experiance that there under controlled conditions than to be thrown into it never experiancing it. i do not want to scare anyone away but in my opnion a person is better off going to slc for their training and school than in conley if at all possable.

The only advice I can give you and I have given all those who have entered behind me is ABSORB what they tell you and nothing more!
In high school and college you get better grades by going above and beyond...NOT HERE! They are used to pumping out graduates and know EXACTLY what needs to be taught and EXACTLY when. If they don't cover something that you're curious about you have two options: wait until you're with your trainer, or wait until downtime and approach the instructor quietly. You'll find that there will be students in your class who get easily distracted and if they hear your question that will spur on a whole string which will cause either you or them to fail.
It really is a GREAT school and I recommend it to ANYONE. Keep in mind it's two weeks...but they were able to take me WITH ZERO EXPERIENCE to having my license. As long as you REALLY want to be here...you'll do fine.

I totally agree with Iceman on this one, do what they tell you when they tell you and nothing more, nothing less and you will pass. It's all about repetition and memorization, you will get it if you work hard and study the material. Don't get me wrong, they want the best of the best and they will weed out the ones that don't have the right mindset for this job. They tell you the first day in the yard to treat it like a job, do that and you'll waltz to the finish line.

We haul whatever is around, like the OTR fleet. A lot of Kraft from Stockton, CA & Taters out of Idaho to WVC.
