    First off drive safe guys. Quick question.
    How or can you gain experience on your DOT own authority while you lease under someone’s else authority? I asked because for a new business owner thats trying to get my own authority i got quoted for 2700 a month. This was the lowest quote out of literally 7 insurance companies. State of Pennsylvania. For one year god willing without any problems the premium will go down. But im trying to figure out how can i gain experience on my own DOT number so i can get lower rates insurance wise while i operate under someone’s else authority. Or is it impossible and just pay the 2700. Craw before i walk type.

    @OldMan
    Im not looking for any short cuts Sir. Minimizing overhead and Maximizing profits is the focus. I have alot of patiences so thats why ive been doing alot of reading and studying the business before i dive in. This is long term not short term. Yea everybody want to be a boss but not everyone last long term. Patience and budget is the root to success for someone without a silver spoon. But thanks

    What your asking is impossible, you run under someone’s number they provide the liability and cargo. It won’t do anything for your number, now if you have no driving experience a few years driving for someone may help.
    To be clear what does the $2700 include.
    But you cannot short cut experience, in this business all your work for the last 10 years has to be proven.
    The insurance is high based on what others have done and odds are you will screw up .

    You can do that....... just because you have active authority doesn’t mean you have to use it.....

    you also don’t have to have cargo insurance to get active authority. No one will give you any loads but all you need is liability.......

    you also have to have all the rest , drug consortium , bla bla bla.

    insurance doesn’t care how many loads you do... all they want is no loss runs........

    Due to potential insurance conflict of interests you should not have your authority active (liability insured by your own coverage) while still operating the equipment under someone else's authority and be insured by their liability too. I run into this when I decided to go on my own and also wanted to run till my MC would go active. My insurance agent said it would not fly and prior to my signing of the insurance binder I had to terminate my then lease agreement. In effect, I waited without any work a little over 2 weeks when I got my authority letter from FMCSA. Perhaps, you could do the otherwise and nobody would find out but is it worth the risk, if there is an accident or something nasty?
    Besides, what's the point of getting your authority and still pay insurance premium and not use it? If you don't believe that you can beat the rates you already have with the current carrier you are leased with, then you don't need your authority.
