I am not a user but this is an issue that will not be going away and will have to be readdressed into a manageable solution for the future.
They do need to look closer at the problem of marijuana use and defining sobriety, testing can yield positive hits on an otherwise sober person who has used just days earlier while off duty or even a few weeks prior since the thc persists in the body for extended periods, unlike alcohol.

This is a benefit most overlook when talking about removing pot from the federal banned drug list. As long as it's there companies are unwilling to do any research as they want those lucrative federal contracts. Which they won't get if they are researching "illegal" drugs.
One it's removed I'd be surprised if it takes 6 months to get a current sobriety test out for pot.

Once there is a test that is fairly reliable that can gauge how impaired one is, only then will pot be allowed to truck drivers, if ever.

Which doesn't test intoxication levels. Itsimply tests if you've used in the last few hours.
It's the equivalent of a field sobriety test for alcohol. It simply states you might be impaired based on past usage.
It's the difference in drinking 1 can of beer 4 hours ago vs. drinking a 6 pack in less than an hour and driving.

"Marijuana over activates parts of the brain that contain the highest number of these receptors. This causes the "high" that people feel. Other effects include:

    • altered senses (for example, seeing brighter colors)
    • altered sense of time
    • changes in mood
    • impaired body movement
    • difficulty with thinking and problem-solving
    • impaired memory
    • hallucinations (when taken in high doses)
    • delusions (when taken in high doses)
    • psychosis (risk is highest with regular use of high potency marijuana)"
Sure, now throw the responsibility of controlling an 80,000 pound vehicle in there, doesn't quite mix does it? I don't even like driving through states where it is legalized out of fear some dummy who can't control themselves is going to be high off his rocker and hit me. It's quite simple, if you want to smoke find a career where your habit isn't a danger to the safety of others.

Nothing will happen. Alcohol perfectly legal after you 21 in all states , exept Utah .
But no one is driving drunk right? ( I am writing about average person , not about total idiot)
Same will be here , go smoke your pot, but by "company policy" you will stay out of job for few weeks

Bean Jr. and Rideandrepair Thank this.

The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.
Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, all year round.
