Different situations, different applications. Normally brakes are set, truck in neutral gate.

Airbags are deflating and reflating.

On a heavy duty truck with air brakes I've never left it in gear. If you've ever tried to take off in low gear and forgot to release the yellow knob you know how hard they hold. 3 or 4 axles worth of spring brakes that thing ain't moving.
On a light or medium duty with hydraulic service brakes and a cable actuated parking brake, don't trust the parking brake for any longer than it takes to jump out and chock the wheels in a roll away situation. Otherwise leave it in gear while parked with the motor off. On my little truck I actually park it overnight where it rests without moving and then slip it in gear once the motor is off. The parking brake I only use for temporary assistance while the engine is running. -
Nope never heard of them.

We are new to the medium duty world! Just got a 2012 T370 with vary low kms 78000kms to be exact, however I find the parking brake weak? Do how much adjustment is achievable thru the cable and or is the actual brake assembly adjustable??

In gear, no parking brakes.

If It’s your truck. You can do it how you want. I always leave manuals in neutral and don’t spin it over with the clutch pedal pressed.
Just keep in mind that a truck can still move even if it is parked in gear. The engines on the new ones may not fire up but they will still rollover as the driveline and trans and the weight of truck rotate the flywheel.
The old mechanicals did not need electric power to fire the injectors or let the fuel pump work so they could startup by simply pushing/rolling them in gear without even having batteries.
Don’t some of the big truck auto’s nowadays park in “N” because they don’t have a “P” anyway? -
Today's autos are mostly just regular manual transmissions with added electronics and an electronic shifter in place of a shift tower. Never really dealt much with them but have read and been told by many that shutting the truck off with it in gear can actually lead to it being stuck in gear. If that happens, the engine will not be able to start if the torque inside the transmission is too much for the XY shifter to be able to pop the transmission into neutral. Even heard of mechanics having to come out, remove the XY shifter and manually put the transmission into neutral with a prybar.Hammer166 and SmallPackage Thank this.
