Dot compliant crew cab berth f750

    I agree. All solid points. I had almost pictured a bulkhead for your feet at the foot of the mattress and a simple belt over the mid section. It would most definitely restrain someone but I imagine the crushing forces on the spine in the event of a crash would be horrible. Overall, probably not the best orientation for sleeping in a moving truck. Curious about the work around you mentioned at the beginning of your second paragraph there. How so?

    We are 6'4 and 6'5. All the benefits of such long gone after high school sports. All that remains is the back pains and the inability to fit in small places comfortably

    I was talking about just about everything but restraints...
    Let's go down the list of requirements...
    A1. 75 x 24 x24 inches. Easy done
    A2. Generally rectangular in shape. This is more a judgement call, but I think will be fine.
    A3. Must have to get in and out. This may be harder, but again it's not defined so making sure both doors open should suffice.
    B Location. Must be part of the cab. Done
    C. Exits. Must be able to exit to the drivers seat. Just remove center console too, if there is even one.
    D: Must be able to talk to the driver. Done
    E. Equipment. Must have a mattress and sheets and blanket. - Done
    F & G Leaking exhaust, dust and rain cannot get in - Done
    H Occupant restraint. This is the kicker in my mind.

    I agree. The restraint system and safety in general are kind of putting me off the orientation. Looks like the bunk will go on the truck. Thanks for taking the time to give your opinion.

    Well I had a run in with bambi's pop on the 4th of Nov. Brought her to the home 20 on the 11th, & been piddling around since then. Adjuster took forever, I procrastinated too, it's a whole stupid saga. Just called it a year, so I'm of no value for the last 7 weeks of what freight in my range has been up to..

    With that, usually I leave FL & stay gone a couple, few weeks. I'm more of a 300-400 mile, $1k a day kinda guy. That's my arena of making money. Seems when I grab those 1,000-2500mile loads, the rate per mile falls.. I have seen the longer runs, & if high miles, lower rates is what you're after, they are out there. Just be sure to run all the way to the 5 corridor if you go west of i35. Slim pickens in between..

    With the copilot I'm hoping we can beat down some doors on our 2 hr window to pick up some value adders on the longer hauls. Also have a bit of support from the home base. 5500 miles per week is the sweet spot per my calculations on cpm.
    If you don't mind me asking what is your average cpm in the class 8 at current fuel? Assuming the truck were paid for.

    Too bad to hear about the critter. I love the comfort of the old flds and such. Direct 10, highway gear and a 60 series. They actually do pretty good mileage. What is the spec on your rig?

    It's actually a 32k lb class 7 fld120.
    1993 model
    Factory single screw.
    DDEC II 11.1 350hp Series 60
    fuller rtx 9sp .73 od
    12k steer
    23k rockwell RS23161 on 20k lb airliner suspension
    4.10 gear
    11r22.5
    Surprisingly even cranking along at 1600-1650rpm all day, as long as the boost stays low she does pretty good..
    IFTA generally in the mid 8's mpg. Quarter high of 9.12mpg, quater low of 6.95mpg.

    With fuel @ $2.50 gal & say ~8mpg average ~31cent per mile for fuel..
    Operating cost for 7,000 miles per month is 89 cent pm. That includes 4 nights in a motel. That doesn't include paying myself though.. I've met a hotshot once who claimed his OC was in the 60 something cent range, but I'm sure he runs more miles than I..

    I'm not really sure about that FLB. I asked about it too, but got a vague answer. Think it's a '95, Series 60, wants $5k for it. "Ran when we parked it.." lol Shoot, if it really runs its worth $5k just for the engine..

    Thanks for the break down. That's not a bad cpm for a class 7 with a larger engine. Can't beat the torque.

    I love the cabovers. Would have to go full air to tolerate living in it though.

    My truck I'm putting together now is getting a 8.9 isl @400 and a rtlo13. It's got a 4 .11 rear in it now. Thinking about 255/70s and swapping to a 3.08 to run direct. Unsure. Seems like a waste of a double over trans but it's what I've got. Truck originally had the 6.0. Windowed the block under 190k. Bought it broke. Was going dt466 then found a steal on a common rail isl reman. Hasn't been cranked yet. Hope the reliability is on par with some of the 5.9s I have had. Fingers crossed.

    Sorry Brian, just saw this, I didn't have any Chevy's at least not since way back in the 6.2 diesel days and I would like to forget about that truck.... With that being said I did have an F650 and had measured it up for the front to back sleeper, I think for one person its a good deal, I would not EVER try and do two in that cab, regardless of configuration. Just as a side note, I did run my Pete crew cab otr just me, but I always logged off duty, not sleeper and was inspected many times, with no issues. I dont think you can get a TRUE 75x24x24 across the back of that F650-750 cab without getting into the shells of the back doors if I remember right??

    I couldn't imagine running a team in a crew cab... It's bad enough in a Semi.. I think you are destined for failure on this IMHO..

    The ONLY way this would work would be to buy a single cab long frame and put an actual semi sleeper on the truck. Like a small pete style sleeper. IMO there are far better trucks to do this with than a F750.. If you are going that big, then just pick up a single axle Semi with a sleeper already on it, not like a F750 is a small truck but it does have a small motor and is underpowered. Meanwhile, you can get a single axle semi with a small sleeper with a "real" engine & tans..
