    Howdy,

I am now a licensed tractor-trailer driver with hazmat and tanker endorsments. I have a pre-hire letter from U.S. Xpress and Roel. I have not responded yet as I was focusing my energies on training. Does anyone have any experience with either company? Advice? Comments?

    Thanks in advance

Well, from personal observation I can tell you that the quality of US Express drivers is apparently hitting an all-time low.... or at least the doofus levels are rising. Last week, watched one with a "trainer" sticker doing battle with the air hose at a Love's.
Round one, tripped himself face first into the tire. Round 2 began with him giving hose a big yank whereupon fitting clocked him right in the chops. Round 3 he veeery carefully wrapped hose back on the hanger, except for the loop around his foot. Clear winner and still champ, the air hose.:yes2557:

That attitude will take you far in this business !!! The truth hurts sometimes. What I stated was the truth. Now if'n ya wanna be decent, and discuss things, we may be able to assist you. First, prehires are almost worthless. Second, what driving school? Third, how is your MVR? Forth, whats your age? All these things matter.......

As for miles I get around 2000 a week on the Family Dollar account. 3 runs a week. Home on Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.

Dude, you are a "licensed tractor-trailer driver with hazmat and tanker endorsement". Thanks for nothing? You are nothing (in the eyes of these companies) and you know nothing. At this point in your non existent driving career you really ought to take everything into consideration. Not all advice is good advice, but you don't know that yet. Take everything with a grain of salt, but don't disregard it. You know what's gonna happen if you go to work for USX? They will use and abuse you for a year. If you go with Roehl? Same thing. They know they've got you. You'd be stupid to leave without the oh so important 1yr verifiable experience. Just pick a company, it doesn't matter which one. 80% chance you'll be so annoyed with them after a year or so, you're gonna move on. Why do you think these companies have such incredible turn over rates? Why do you think they pay people to go to these schools and recruit new drivers? Get your year of experience, pay your dues, and learn to back up without cones.

You want advice from someone with experience with these companies. I started with USX. My 1st day cut loose from training they put me in a rental car and sent me to recover a repo'd truck from Williamsport PA in the middle of the night. By myself. A 21 year old female. I did recover the truck with the help of the Williamsport police. Then they told me that was my assigned truck. It was trashed, had rotten food under the bunk. I spent 4 miserable days in June in the filthy truck with no AC trying to get it back to the terminal because I refused to be assigned to it. I was 21, fresh out of training with minimal funds to my name. You think they would pay for a room so I didn't have to sleep in it? No. I barely slept between the heat and the stench. Did they care? No. Will they care about you? No. It's what they do. That's why they churn the newbs right out of driving school.

    Thanks Tankergirl,
That was more along the lines of the advice I was looking for. I mean no disrespect -- I thought I might get some real world advice.
I'm ready to pay my dues.
