Think I'll stick with my company awhile longer. They maybe doing some really stupid things now that piss me off BUT we do have the niceties like APUS, fridges, inverters, etc.
-
probally a good idea do they supply fridges to the drivers?
-
Comes with the truck along with the Sirrius capable radio. I LOVE my Sirrius radio!!!!!!! As a company driver, so does the inverter and other small amenities.
On a sour note and going along with the small things that are driving me crazy, got a message the other day that was the stupidest thing I have ever heard or seen. Needed some reefer fuel so stopped and got some. Hadn't even got out of the lot when hit with an "emergancy" msg. "You have gotten reefer fuel without getting tractor fuel. Contact your driver manager immidiately!!" Say what?????? -
Hey fellas how you guys doin? What is icon and what does it do? Does central put it in there trucks? THANKS!!
-
Icon or TAS, depending on if the engine is a cummins or volvo is on Centrals trucks.
It is a system to help lower idle times.
It has 2 modes.
One mode is engine management mode. All this one does is turns the engine on and off automaticly to keep engine temp above 70 degrees and to keep the batterys charged.
The second mode is cab comfort mode.
When using this mode, which is the most common used, you set a temp on the control in the sleeper. The system will then keep your truck around that tempature inside. It is a range of about +/- 3 degrees.
So it will use the trucks cooling or heating system to keep you warm or cold.
It will normally lower idle percent by about 20%.
Without it you may run 10 hours in a day, and park 10 hours for your break. If you have to run your engine steady to stay comfortable you will be idleing 10 hours. Or 50% idle. Since half the day you are idleing and half the day you are driving.
With icon the engine will cycle. Turning itself on and off when you are stopped so it does not idle steady. Central charges drivers for over 30% idle or something like that.
So icon will help you keep that idle down, though it will not eliminate it.
Central also has underbunk heaters in all trucks.
So you can use that to keep the sleeper warm in winter months without the need to idle. Since this device does not use the trucks engine to make heat.
Though you should put the icon system in engine management mode when using the underbunk heater, so you will not kill your batterys.
A trick is using the two together. I am not sure if it is the same with icon as with TAS on the volvo engines. But with the volvo engines using TAS in engine management mode will not count as idle when it starts to charge the batterys or keep the engine warm. Since it does not power up accessorys like qualcom, or the heat/ ac system.
You can have 0% idle on the qualcom easy using them together. -
