Haha you are right. I am so used to natural gas. See don’t ever take advice from people on the internet. I don’t even drive anymore best move I ever made.

 

Propane or NG is heavier then air. It will go down and accumulates in tranches or hollows if it is no wind. Keep it in mind for the fire and suffocation hazard.
If there is ignition source and you are blowing you are an idiot.

 

Natural gas is lighter then air. It has an ignition point of 5%-15% gas to air. If it is blowing you are all good it won’t light.

I was corrected on propane. That’s heavier and will sit low for awhile. I have no idea what it’s ignition percentage is.

We have people crash into natural gas meter sets all the time or contractors hitting gas lines while digging and most the time the best thing to do is let it blow as it won’t light until you are sure for #### power is off to the surrounding area.

just some fun facts. It’s hard to not want to shut a valve when something happens but if the air is rich with fuel it won’t ignite until it hits the gas to air ratio for bang bang time.

 

Can't believe the company your hauling for didn't properly train you. When we started we had five days of class room then two weeks of ride along with three different drivers. This how people get hurt. Plus calling trainers at any hours for help with questions

@Badmon aside from the already corrected info about propane being lighter than air, there is some good information on this thread. I'll PM you my cell if you'd like, you're welcome to call me between 0500 and 1700 Tue-Sat with ANY questions on propane that you have. I run to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket every day so I have a lot of downtime between pumping and loading at a terminal.

 

That has gotta be an interesting area to drive in. Lots of ferry time, I assume.

 

Lots of it. About 45 minutes each way for Martha’s Vineyard, 2 and a half for Nantucket. Last time I got paid to nap I was running linehaul at FXF lol.

As far as driving around the islands, it’s not bad. The locals are pretty good to give you space for a wide turn. The exception being anyone with a NJ plate.
