I found one of walmart's old 2016 Peterbilt 579 isx cummins 400 hp, 2.47 ratio with 560K miles on it. I've always driven a freightliner for my company doing local work in CA and never had a problem with the DD15. But it's difficult to find a well priced Manual transmission freightliner nowadays. I can afford this pete because of the high mileage on it. By what I've heard from Walmart drivers is that the trucks are maintained in top shape. If I do get the truck I plan on keeping up on the maintenance too and also change parts that i know that go bad at certain mileage way ahead of time, thats when I get the money of course. But things happen, thats why I would like to know what are your thoughts on the truck specs, engine in particular and any other recommendations. I would appreciate it.
Peter?

Starting at the port of LA/LB , containers at 20k-35K lbs Max. Staying local within 60 mile radius, with occasional Nevada loads from LA. 550 miles max a day, with not many hills.
Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
Hardly anybody maintains their iron. "Well maintained" typically means bare minimum to keep it legal and keep the warranty valid.
Trucker61016, Accidental Trucker, 77fib77 and 3 others Thank this. -
Yeah I figured that out already with the company I work with. They get rid of check engine lights by putting black tape over it. Lol I'm not lying. But how good is the isx15 in your opinion? I know DD15s last long, but I dont know much about the isx15

Get it on a Dyno and do a blowby, also do the other due diligence before you consider it.
baha Thanks this. -
I have a friend that bought one of their old international trucks, he said it was the least expensive truck he ever owned. It was well maintained and he just kept up with the maintenance.
It’s a used truck, you will spend money on it, but if I was going to buy a used fleet truck theirs are probably the only ones I would look at.77fib77 Thanks this. -
15 years ago I bought one of their Internationals, and it promptly dropped a liner three months later......
You pay your money and you take your chances. -
It is a used truck, but that doesn’t reflect directly to lack of maintenance.
