Insurance .... Help

I have my own authority (will need to reactivate it) and want to run independently as I don't want to go out every week. My insurance lady implied insurance as a car hauler will be more expensive than pulling a dry van (IF I can even get it) !!!! How does an independent O/O get started ?? Or is it even possible.?? Are there insurers that specialize in car haulers ??. And for those who have experience in both, will I make more money hauling cars than dry van freight ?? I'm in Virginia if that helps.

 

Great .... thank you .... My fixed costs will be important as the truck will be sitting more than most. I would like to average around 15 days/month at the most. That will make it tough to make much but I really need to get back out there.... and I need to net around $ 30,000/year.

 

I'm guessing most companies don't want to deal with a PT driver. Most seem to want you to run your butt off for them however, I will look into that suggestion (thank you). I like running under my own authority due to the flexibility/freedom. I also look forward to going south and freight rates are crap coming back to VA. I could do dry van around Virginia (Pa/Md etc) and it pays OK but again,I like going south. Did I mention I'm an old fart ?? LOL. Still educating myself on the car hauling. It looks like more work but not having to deal with shipping and receiving is a + and the freedom looks attractive. And it seems plenty of work out there ??
