When I took mine it was not an automatic fail, but it was points off. Got to wonder how much it's changed in the last 10 years here in Michigan.Kevink123 Thanks this.

Easier to miss a gear though and having to start over again is points against you.Kevink123 Thanks this.

I was a State of Michigan licensed Instructor for five years, 2010-2015.
The thing most people forget is that every state has different laws and rules. Also some 3rd party testers are more forgiving than others. I have always been in favor of a nation wide uniform standard that is much more strict than what we have now. Then maybe I can get parked at night instead of waiting 10 minutes for some steering wheel holder to get parked.650cat425, brian991219, Kevink123 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Can't shift through a turn? You're supposed to slow down the first half of a turn, and accelerate the second half. So you can't drop gears and grab gears? What if you're in an auto? They going to fail the truck because the computer decided it was time to downshift?

Switch it to manual and if it acts up stop and whoop it's tailpipe.God prefers Diesels Thanks this.

"Don't make me turn this truck around!"SoulScream84, ZVar and tarmadilo Thank this.

Did you have to pop your air brakes on too at a stop light?? I suppose that will be the next thing to insure you don’t roll back into someone.God prefers Diesels Thanks this.

Not at stop lights, but we did have to do a simulated emergency stop. Basically pull over, set the breaks and toss on the 4 way.OldeSkool Thanks this.

My best advice is DO IT THE WAY THE INSTRUCTOR wants it done. These instructors know what the examiners will want you to do. I'm not trying to bust your chops on this, but this is the beginning of a road test failure, don't overthink this, just do it as instructed. Stay with that instructor until you can do this the way they want it done. I am NOT saying it is right or wrong. Once you get your CDL and your own truck shift whatever way you want!25(2)+2, brian991219 and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
