    Grouch,

To compare Teamster Union drivers to OTR drivers is, well, no comparison. I mean is it really even fair?Their peace meal work for pay, along with not being paid for every mile they drive is just the top of the iceberg! You have to factor in how much they pay for health, dental and vision if those companies even offer all of them. Then you get to contribute money to your retirement if they offer that as well. And let's not forget about your paid time off like vacation days, sick days and jury duty. And please don't bring up overtime, double time and holiday pay. Plus, most union drivers get to enjoy being home every night with their families. Let's play nice.

    Grouch Thanks this.

Plan on being a casual for a while , you will pay dues and not receive any benefits until they hire you.
Some union shop's play the casual game until the union buisness agent will have to let you go because you timed out according to the master agreement and they hire another fresh fish.
You also be working for less money than the old hats until you are vested which was 7 years , and some more good news the pension fund is underfunded.
That is why UPS bailed out on the central states pension fund.

You pay no dues until you are hired, and on the seniority list, depending on the company it can take up to 3 years to top rate, vesting in the pension plan is 5 years.

Welcome to the trucking world doesn’t pay much in your first year. Two of my good friends work for FedEx freight P&D Chesapeake, Va other UPS Linehaul not UPSF in Richmond, both have over 9 years with those companies . If you’re making 850-1000 net a week then you’re doing great for your small experience. All I know is with companies like FXF and UPSF, when freight not busy you won’t make OT pay and you’ll probably start out at $22 FXF $17.50 hr with UPS Freight as a P&D driver with 40hrs a week no OT and after taxes ,benefits and maybe union dues your check won’t be more then $700 a week. Linehaul best out of Richmond bc they drive up to 5 hours out, that’s the hardest gig to get on with any LTL carrier in the Richmond / Hampton Roads area.

^^^^yup^^^^ This isn't Detroit and the UAW of the 60's and 70's. The only thing that hasn't changed with Unions over the decades is the corruption. Still alive and well.

Spent 2 years in the union, worst choice I ever made. Back to non-union work is plentiful the pay is better, for me YMMV

It’s a shame. Workers today are so underpaid it’s not funny. The only job security outside the Government is having a job so crappy, no one else wants it.

May be different on your end, but the union did absolutely nothing for me and I will not work union again. (Pipefitters 598) I put more money in my bank and retirement than I ever did working through those money grabers. Like I said YMMV.
