Do you have the standard power/economy tune?
Or do you have a better "custom" version?
My truck goes great with just the std tune, but I am thinking about bigger injectors as well. It might be easier to ask for a better tune if it is that easy?

Right now I just have the standard tunes for daily work, but we (BD and myself) are working on a bigger tune for sled pulling.
-
That passwork is not supposed to be available outside of cummins dealers, as cummins have gone to great lengths to stop people from hot roding the ISX.
After looking over the techs shoulder while mine was being worked on, its not like Cat where you can trim things and so on. its more just diagnostics and a tune uploading facility. -
Powerspec does nothing with power at all, its just end-user diagnostic tool with ability to set up engine "consumer" parameters like the way engine brake is activated or engine timer for shutdown or idleing rpm speed and so on. Interestingly, there are options that I can't find in INSITE, but I actually use these programs only when forced to by issues, so Im not a big expert.
To change power ratings - its a whole different story.
There are 3 main versions of INSITE available:
- Basic -read only, no tests probably and no changes to ECM for sure
- Lite - everything except changing calibrations
- Pro - you will be able to upload calibrations, the "tunes" we are talking about, containing various power ratings for given engine, but also updated, improved versions of ECM software. Whole set of those is called INCAL:
What is INCAL?
The INCAL is one DVD, which contains the latest revisions of all Cummins ECM Calibrations. It is released and sent out monthly to INCAL Subscribers. Please contact your Cummins distributor for more information.

And thats what the distributors hesitate to give out. BTW check out the spreadsheet, its a list of ALL revisions. Wonder if AU versions are in there?Last edited: Nov 8, 2009

I'm trying figure out how to connect my PC to the data cable and use something like Powerspec to read fault codes, fuel economy, ect....
You would think that all you would need is a cable and the free software.
Do you need to purchase the Inline adapter or can you connect from PC USB to data cable??? -
No, you will need an adapter. I doesn't have to be a Cummins "Inline" series, but any current one with the proper drivers installed would work.
bruno Thanks this. -
You can get Insite easier than you think!
-
a friend of mine has less than a dozen trucks he is in west sac area. cummins west sold him insite which also included quickserve online for any five truck engine serial numbers. After purchasing the software (and calling me every night) He took one of the troubleshooting classes that all certified techs are required to take. they would not let him test out on the last day but he could watch. I think he paid $750 for the insite.
-
I can hook you up if you'd like, pm'd you. -
Insite's a good program. Much more user friendly than others (e.g., PACCAR, Inc's "Davey"). I've never seen any indication of it being that difficult to get a hold of... it's Volvo who doesn't want anyone to have their software.
