Well Hi guys I am new here hope this is the right lace for this post. Well I'm from a small town and have been working at a grain elevator for around 5 weeks. And I've been talking to some of the guys I load to haul to another town. I have come to the conclusion that I want to get my CDL. I'm kinda lost on the whole conception of what I need to do and where to start at. So that's where you guys come in LOL. I have a clean driving record for being 18 "don't see that to much around here" haha. I am looking for where to start. One guy I was talking to said to me tonight if you want your CDL I and my boss can hel you with training by donating your training for free to you. I also need to get a idea of how much this will all come out to be in price.

    Thanks guys, James :biggrin_255:

Read the state of illlinois cdl book.... you can only drive in the state at age 18 you have to be 21 to drive otr....and just remember nothing is free. your boss will expect something find out what that is and good luck go for it

Went and picked up my CDL study guide book from the DMV today. Man oh man is this thing big. I see there are boxes where it says test your knowledge, I was wondering if I do all those will that be most of the questions on the written test?

honestly no.....i thought the same thing, alot of those questions at the end of each section are NOT on the CDL test

the best thing to do is go and take the test, even if u miss every question, u will know what to expect

u are in a good job because nobody will hire you under 21, except for farmers...they probably wont care how old u are as long as your legal, theyre not a big corporation

That's all I'm wanting to do is do trucking around here, there are quite a bit of small trucking company's around here, and I would want to work for them than a big company.

James, I sent you a pm for online practice tests. These really helped me get my CDL and endoresments. They are by no means to be relied upon for the sole means of study, you MUST read the CDL handbook for you state to pass the test. However, since commercial licenses are federaly regulated, all states must comply with a minimum standard. Hence the more you study the better prepared you will be to pass the test.

this is the best site i ever found for practice tests

    http://www.cristcdl.com/otc/

take all of the general knowledge, air brakes and combination vehicles.....read and understand the answers you missed and u shouldnt have any problems passing the written test at the BMV
