I appreciate everyone’s feedback. It’s been very informative. To those of you who were wondering as to why I narrowed my search down to Crete and Herman, information is just easier to find on the bigger companies because they are just that. Big. Lots of drivers, lotta freight lanes. And they advertise everywhere so they are easy to spot as opposed to smaller fleets that not many know. One of the reasons why I wanted to reach out here, and I think because of that I’ve replaced Crete with H&M. I’ve looked a little bit more into them, but I’ll be honest and say I don’t want to drive a Volvo. Lol.
Might even consider pulling another type of freight if the job was right. Hopper? Food grade tanker? Maybe even Maverick’s glass division...
H&M and Herman are at the top of my list as of nowNeed4Speed, jethro712 and Dale thompson Thank this. -
Never knew that they went out that far west. You guys ever make it up into the Pacific Northwest?
-
Yes. They have runs to Oregon.

I was in New Mexico when Crete tried to send me to Texas to pick up a load. The problem was, I was
supposed to be home the next day on home time in CA. I refused the load so they shut me down for the weekend. Needless to say I left them very soon after that bad experience. I am now in LTL working 5 days, weekends off, home every night and make 70+ a year. I never looked back. -
Is DHT still doing that expert fuel routing ? you buy fuel when and where they tell you too...I really enjoyed them before they started that.
-
Yup. It's not a big deal to me. Always on the route. Is that really how you choose the Company you drive for? When and where you fuel? Seriously? When a Company is purchasing fuel for a 500 truck fleet, a few pennies per gallon, not to mention all of the differences in fuel taxes from State to State, adds up to quite a chunk of change in a year.
-
I would not have a problem fueling where they want me to. Their truck. Their money. But I know that some companies have you put in say 65 gallons on at stop "a", then have you put in say 55 gallons on at stop "b" and so on. Companies that do this waste their driver time and that shows no respect for said drivers.
-
I was there when they implemented this plan... they were having teams stop and buy 50 gallons. I love the company ... but i hated that plan.. I always fueled at their designated fuel stops. but, I like to stop when I can do it fast... they were eating valuable time to save those pennies..

As long as DHT would give you a fair amount of time from point A to point B, would really be that bad?
Then again, I could definitely understand not wanting to wait in line at busy fuel islands multiple times a day. But I don’t work there yet, so what do I know?
