I need to finish my thoughts before I hit submit... anyhow im no expert on turbos just my own experiences ... yeah would stall under 1400 bad nature of the beast i guess... I only sugest michigan turbo because they aslo sell stock a/r (factory cat) for much less than dealer or cat house.... if you choose to go that route.

Something very wrong with that turbo. Usually they brake shafts from the turbine side. Once a HT4C in one of the Finnish race trucks broke a shaft and turbine wheel came through the exhaust pipe and cabin floor and hit the driver in the head. That compressor housing shouldn't break like that.

I agree 100%.... Shaft would spin just like new while sittin on the shop floor there.... I belive part of problem is the added weight and height of the bell they weld on to adapt to cat elbow.... add in a few years of vibration on dump truck .... Thinking possible stress crack, then under full load (and it was) boom... Ive never seen or heard of another one breaking like mine ....When i got new one from pp you could move shaft enough to touch sides......... I dont shop there any more.. By the way .. nice vid brings back memories.

Coal Bucket, that's a classic over speed explosion. The turbo breaks the shaft at the compressor side bearing, because it's a smaller diameter there. The compressor housing is supposed to contain the wheel inside of it.

    Borg-Warner 198123 is a Michigan Turbo Stage 3 turbo

Unfortunately I have some photos that are actually worse, along with a dent in my hood from the through shaft trying to exit the truck. Once you modify the compressor housing to put a larger wheel in it, you take away from it's ability to contain explosions.

    See ya Tuesday

That's not a bad price at SPS, what does MT sell them for? I thought the stage 3 was for a little more than 600hp? Isn't the stage 3 about the right one for minor upgrades, like 58 inj and ecm mod? (6NZ) Maybe cam upgrade... Or should I be looking for a little bigger turbo?

Nice thing about that SPS is I'm in GA, so they're close. Thanks V8Lenny.
