Because if you don't come back over as quick as you can, the line of idiot 4 wheelers will cut off the other truck to run up your right side. Then you'll be stuck out there for as long as it take the entire line to pass. That's more annoying then being flashed over.
No more flashing!

Again I'll ask? SO WHAT? If you're doing the speed limit, WTF! And as long as I've been driving, 4 wheelers aren't the only ones over run with intelligence! BUT I have seen 4 wheelers who actually know what a blinker is and will let you back over. There are more smart 4 wheelers out there than you think!
If it annoys you or anyone else to get passed on the right then trucking isn't for you! If you ride in the center lane of a 3 lane and you're getting passed on the right, WTF is the difference? There is NONE! Get over that stupid "the 4 wheeler will cut you off" and "getting passed on the right" attitude! I've heard that trash for years and big deal! Heck the freaking 4 wheeler is going to be OUT OF YOUR LIFE in less than 10 seconds!
You drivers need to get a firm grip on things or you'll wind up with more health problems than you need! Relax! As I said there is no difference riding in the center lane and getting passed by cars AND trucks so whats the difference if they pass you on the right on a 2 lane? NONE! You'll live longer but they might not!
That argument is about the lame as cutting off a moron 4 wheeler that's passing you before you get into the cones in a construction zone! He's now in front of you and at the end of the zone he's again gone out of your life. No big deal! And no skin off your nose! BUT cut him off, and, well cell phones are every where and you were in such a big hurry to cut the fool off but I bet you've seen a cop or two pulling over some truck because of the "he cut me off" call. All that hurry time paid off! Hear the tales all the time these days! There is a thread about just this example! He's now looking for a job! He found out it wasn't worth the 2 seconds he would have lost to let the moron back in!
Yes, I'm being blunt, but we are our own worse enemies! Driving smart is the rule now. We all are being faced with moron 4 wheelers with bad attitudes and they are ALL looking for a free hand out! Even truckers are into the sue the crud out of anyone they can! Pull back over 5 feet in front of a driver is stupid! You throw something into the truck off the road then you have a PO'ed driver even if he flashed you over. Do it to a 4 wheeler and there is a line of lawyers waiting for you to get home to answer the mail! Not to mention you pull back in that soon and something happens in front of you and you stand on your brakes, YOU put that driver in harms way for being stupid! Up to the point of even critically injuring them or even killing them? Is it worth it? Nope, Not this century! And I know you have the snappy come back that you're a better driver than that! Stuff happens fast out there and 5 feet means NO REACTION TIME. PERIOD!
It's time we all started to drive like there is actually a brain in gear behind the nut on the steering wheel, and quit with the trivial BS whiney crybaby stuff that has NO effect on your life and act like MEN and WOMEN in charge of a truck and not a kiddie garder ride at Six Flags! -
Ok, supertrucker.

Like it or not...He's right!
Very well said.Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
Cept for the laws states have been passing making it illegal to ride in the left lane. If we're not supposed to worry about the cars passing on the right or all that other stuff in the wall of text there, then why so much worry over wether someone else wants to flash a truck over? Quit worrying about it, like you just said.

Im a newbie and Ive always done it. Course, before i became a truckdriver, Ive always done it while driving my car but usually, nobody ever flashed back as to say, "stupid car, I aint flashin you!"....well, there were some that flashed thanks.
The only time I flash now is when someone is passing me at only like 5-10 miles an hour faster than me. If your goin 80 and Im limited to 62, I dont bother. Alot of times when I turn my headlights off and back on, theres a few times I dont get thanked and even though Ive contemplated to say over the CB, "Youre welcome!", but I dont let it bother me since I dont know the reason why they didnt. What I dont understand is why some drivers who obviously arent governed at 62 that are driving considerably faster than i am will flash their tails at me even if I never did give them the "come back over" flash. Are they telling the the exact opposite of me sometimes telling other drivers to come back over and they dont say thanks to me since I didnt give them the flash? -
I always flash the thank you whether you give me the lights or not...Because sometimes when you flash the lights I might not see them because I'm focused on something else for a moment. If you didn't flash me over maybe it serves as a gentle reminder that you didn't exercise a simple common courtesy among drivers that costs you nothing to do and is a simple show of respect for other drivers.
However...If I get the high beams in the eyes after dark, You get the single flash of the left blinker which is the old school trucker equivilant of the finger. -
But like I said before, if you're goin 75 and Im only goin 62, 9 times out of 10 I wont flash you because its rather pointless unless yer goin slightly faster than me. Which leads me to get agrivated at some people that dont flash to slower drivers that are slower than me when I get the rare opportunity to pass! -
YuP.
That's what I thought/think too.
Same things used to bother me before I figured out how to get over 'em.
If another Big truck truck driver doesn't give me the blink-blink -- flash-flash, I just assume they're distracted ...... for some reason. Could be trying to retrive ice cubes spilled on the floor --- along with the X-tra large soda that was in a mug ridin' in his crotch.
I'd call that a "distraction".
Whatever the reason, it tells me something about the personality steering that Big truck who didn't thank me for flashin' 'em over.
And remind myself that I don't flash my lights for the "thanks" anyway.
I'm pleased when drivers do both.
Me?
I flash 'em all.
If they don't return the gesture, that's fine. If they don't was it a snub?
I 'spose so.
As long as I know it wasn't a deserved snub, I'm ok with it.
On those rare occasions I found myself being passed by another Big truck, I'd back out of it a tad, if necessry, to shorten the time the wagon they were draggin' remained a few feet from my tractor, --- then, look and listen to that trailer's sounds as it goes by, and check how the tires appear. A tire goin' flat on the inside is difficult to see, but it'll make a sound y'all should recognize. If y'all hear that, try reachin' the driver on the CB once the trailer is clear.
As a professional driver, we need to be aware of our surroundings at all times.
Depending on conditions, the timing before flashin' another Big truck over varies. When the driver passing is within my comfort zone, I hit the headlights. If they come over before that, IMO, they did so too soon. Especially when tires are spraying muddy rain water. UcK, I don't like cleaning windshields.
Pull back before it's really safe and/or necessary and they won't see me flash. But they would have if they had waited.
Two things at once --- when I'm in the far right lane and there's on-ramp traffic entering the highway, I won't flash a passing Big truck over because I can't predict what a vehicle entering will do at the last moment. If a Big truck is merging right, the side with limited visability for the driver, while a 4-wheeler entering at a high rate of speed suddenly sees the same opening soon to be occupied by a Big truck and goes for it.
(Physics tells us that two matters cannot occupy the same space at the same time.)
W H A M !
But officer --- the Big truck behind me flashed me over.
No I didn't.
Just flash EVERY Big truck over.
If they don't blink y'all back --- guess what?
The sun will still rise in the morning.
Your thanks is knowing you did the proper thing.
Who said, Always do the right thing
Even when NO one is looking.
Good advice.
You know THAT?!
How long have you been driving?
Not too many remember, or even knew that to begin with.
Countless millions read these posts, and now they know.
Do you realize what'cha might'a just caused?
If nothing else, it'll make you feel good. Or at least better.
It's all good.
Where's the respect for slower, governed Big trucks and their drivers?
Don't THEY deserve a flash-flash -- blink-blink?
Take AfterShock's Star Spangled Road Tip, --- flash 'em all over. Feel no guilt.
It's a tried and proven to work method.
If, after giving it a try you decide you don't agree ----
Return it for a full refund.
10-4? -
Are you ok?? Looks like you been hittin that bottle of Aftershock a little too hard......
