I finally received funding to start training school. I start the 23rd if this month. I am excited about the lifestyle change. I know that freight is slow given the economy, but I love the idea of not having a supervisor breathe down my neck. I don't have really high expectations in terms making money, it seems more about what you are willing to put into it and the attitude. I have done a great deal of research and I feel mentally prepared for the lifestyle change. I just want to get there and enjoy myself. Wish me luck!
P.S. if anybody has any advice to give, I am completely open to it. I want to hear the voice of experience

I am not far from you in Manchester, Tn. I retired early a couple of years ago, and am thinking about trucking as a second career. Which school did you finally start with, and where/what is the "funding" you got? Keep us updated on your school, and companies you start with.

I decided to go with TDI over on Epps Mill Rd. The funding I received is from WIA. I went to the career center on Old Fort Pkwy after I talked with the recruiter at TDI. She referred me to the career center. I start this Sunday. Leave me message and I'll give you all the contact info

Hey guys, I have finished school and got my CDL. I ahd prehires from Covenant, Star (Morton, IL), and Western Express. Swift will give me an orientation but I would have to wait another month. I don't think that I can wait that long. It looks like Western will be where I am heading. Any feedback will be much appreciated

really? enlighten me about both companies. i have heard good and bad about both, but not really enough info to sway me one way or the other

Western has had a bad rep for a long time. Even when I used to pull a box several years ago a lot of their drivers told me DOT was always messing with them because their equipment was junk and their safety rating was terrible. The flat div is bad. SMX is owned by them and SMX is better than them, but SMX is not that great I had a buddy there and he stayed out about 6 weeks at a time before they would get him home.
star morton I have heard good and bad about them, but have not talked to any of their drivers lately. I do not know how there are now. -
I can tell you Western Express drivers will get their prepass redlighted . I was in a TN scale for a Level 2 2 weeks ago and saw them show red letters INSPECT on the Prepass screen
