Understanding stocks

Yeah, its value will continue to rise as long as the sheep keep blowing air into the bubble. It will pop sooner or later. Google "tulip mania". It was the first documented "bubble", circa 1636-37, Europe. Bubbles are nothing new. They will continue to come and go, as long as you have sheep to fuel them. Witness the latest bubble--GAMESTOP. Really? How did THAT work out?

There is a really good book, "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator". It is one of the first books about trading and is a must-read if you dabble in the markets. I've read it two or three times. It chronicles the trading life of "The Boy Plunger", Jesse Livermore. He started trading at the age of 15 (give or take a couple of years, I don't remember) in "bucket shops". <<<(GOOGLE IT.) More than one bucket shop banned him from trading because he was KILLING them. He ended up having to leave the New England area (I think he was from the Boston area, not sure) for Ohio (I think it was Ohio) to be able to trade. He was eventually discovered there! He had to resort to having other people serve as his "beards" to go and make trades for him. He ended up being one of the world's biggest players by his early 20s. He made and lost several fortunes. He rubbed elbows with the New York Elite, such as J. P. Morgan, who once begged him to stop shorting stock in one of his companies (I forget which). Anyway, Morgan (I think it was Morgan) stated in the book, "My driver gave me advice to buy a certain stock. I already had the stock, so that was when I knew it was time to sell." That wasn't the exact quote, but it was the main gist of what I'm trying to say.

Incidentally, Jesse Livermore, the "Boy Plunger" who brought Wall Street to it's knees on more than one occasion, the boy who had made and lost entire fortunes, the playboy with mansions in Palm Beach and Long Island, yachts, cars, women...ended up blowing his own brains out in a New York Hotel at the age of 63.

 

I just moved from Miami and you are right. Plenty of places that rent out by the day and month. I used to park the rig for $11 a day in one place. Another place which was much nicer was going for $15. The monthly places charge about $250-$300. I know a couple of places have been shut down because they were operating illegally. Miami-Dade has been really cracking down on that stuff.
