Owners - What do you pay your drivers?

That’s definitely impressive. The minimum my guys can make is 75k and the highest earner broke 100k by a few bucks. 140k as a driver is, wow! I suppose hauling cars though, is very niche and even harder to find the right hand.

 

I've had so many ex reefer/flatbed/drop & hook drivers quit on me after a week of hauling cars with my 9car truck. People don't realize how physical the job just loading the trailer properly based on a mix of cars that are not the same on every load. Then to top it off at an auction you can spend over 3hrs just finding all your 9cars and then another hour or so to load before you even drive. So some of the skilled drivers can get 2-3loads local done in about 12-13hr 250-350mile day others will only deliver one load and barely have time to load the 2nd on the truck before the clock runs out. But pre-covid over 11yrs in bussiness when things were rolling none of my drivers made less than 125k and even on a bad year, highest I recall was $177k one year and the truck grossed 455k(paid at 32%+bonus).

 

Might put someone in my truck and come drive for you!

 

Ha a bit too late sold my running business/dot just last summer. Between covid pause and some health issues with me and the wife finally got the push I needed to hang up it up cash out my equipment (1 truck left to sell in classified).

 

How is the car business right now? Not sure if you still follow that market or not but I would assume it’s busier then ever? Back last fall I remember around here many of the used car lots were nearing empty. Couldn’t keep stock.

 

My neighbor has a little used car lot in town. He said the problem with covid was; they shut down alot of the auctions and the ones that are still open are online only. That has really affected things.
