The reason LEO needs to see documents is to make sure you are who you say you are. Otherwise someone could steal plates, mailbox sticker some numbers on their truck and run until someone reported the plate stolen, which could be months.
If you don't have the documents with you, the LEO is gonna write a ticket because that's the current law, and they know that most people would rather present the documents to the court if it will get their fine reduced.
I got stopped in Texas a few years ago. LEO wants to see my IFTA. I had just put new stickers on a couple weeks ago, and my book is organized so I know right where it is. But as it happens, all that was there was the previous year's permit. DOH!
So I get a ticket, $900 just for not having a piece of paper, even though I did have brand new stickers. A couple weeks later I call the court, ask them if the ticket is in their system yet, fax them my IFTA, and the clerk dismissed the ticket.Speed_Drums, SoulScream84, Coffey and 2 others Thank this. -
Both are right. Most people speed on 465, but there are always speed cops on 465. Recently they have been working in packs and moving location day to day.
The OP got caught because of being in the hammer lane. Even the locals will pull you over for that. They don't like that in Indiana. Like I always say, don't give them a reason.Coffey, EuropeanTrucker, tarmadilo and 2 others Thank this. -
There is no reason to be on left lane on 465. Srsly...there is like 5 lanes.sevenmph, Canadianhauler21 and Dockbumper Thank this.

So smokey bear calls in the plate ( before he pulls the truck over). He will know the plates don't match the truck, without seeing any paperwork the driver has.
Yes, it is the law to carry this paperwork. I have it in my truck.
I don't feel the tickets given are reasonable.
Your $900.00 ticket. The officer could (and probably did) look it's validity on the internet.
I've done similar with my IFTA. I had previous year displayed. New license.
Wyoming bring in your permits. Officer asks for IFTA I present new permit. She says this doesn't match the stickers.
It was January and hadn't had a warm enough day to put new stickers on the truck.
Good thing I had the old permit.
She said because of the overlap of time to display old and new. Whichever one is displayed that the permit required to show.Last edited: Mar 8, 2021

Don’t plead guilty, like mentioned above call on of those CDL ticket guys, as they are pretty good, they should dismiss the reg and insurance as long as you can show it was valid before, and the day you got stopped.

I did in fact hire a traffic lawyer. He’s going to try to have everything dropped except the speeding ticket (but reduced to 5 over).

No wonder I almost never see the cops. I just drive straight through on 70 or 65. The only time I ever touch 465 is when I'm taking 74W for about 2 miles of 465 action.sevenmph Thanks this.

I often have hazmat loads that’s why I gotta go around sometimes.flood, slow.rider and DoubleO7 Thank this.

Speeding is for 4-wheelers. And if you need to go fast, there's plenty of rural highway to do that on. An extra 10mph during the 15 minutes it takes to cross Indy saves like 2 minutes. There's plenty of other ways to pick up 2 minutes.
Just my $0.02.GYPSY65, EuropeanTrucker and DoubleO7 Thank this.
