Hi,
I'm doing some research for a story I'm writing and have a quick question for a mechanic (thank you). In one scene (in UK) a truck has broken down and is blocking the road. A passerby (mechanic) gets the truck up and running, quickly with no replacement parts.
I'm looking for a cause of breakdown that could be fixed by an expert quickly and would not be obvious to most drivers.
I'm thinking maybe a wire that's come loose? A connector / plug that needs cleaning? Something of that nature.
But I'm no mechanic! Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you.

So he runs over a small animal on the highway, which in turn snaps off an airline on his break can. This disables the truck. Mechanic shows up backs off the break bends the airline over and fastens it with a quick tie easy Peezy.

I had a wire rubbing on my tranny once....a friggin bad tire (Imagine that!!!) was vibrating just enough to make it wear through the wire and touch. Stopped me dead on the highway at 4am. It was dark and cold so rather than start diggin myself I called Dunlop truck about 20 miles away from me. They fixed it in under minutes I couldn't believe how quick he diagnosed it and fixed it. Big bill though!

Coolant level falls below required level in surge tank (clear tank clearly visible) Uses the beverage that the driver is drinking while standing and watching mechanic. He politely asks for beverage, opens cap, pours liquid in, rises above safe sensor level. Hands empty cup back to driver. Starts truck. Walks away.
Dino soar, God prefers Diesels, Deere hunter and 4 others Thank this. -
Trucker is driving an International. ABS and traction control lights come on. He pulls over, shuts it off, and calls a mechanic. Mechanic starts the truck, and the lights are off. Problem solved!!

One of our drivers had the throttle linkage spring break and the pedal went flat.
He cut the elastic waist-band out of his Fruit of the Looms, doubled it over, tied it to the throttle linkage, and drove the truck fifty miles back to the shop.
After they got through laughing the mechanics gave him the driver of the day award.AModelCat, Mattflat362 and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
