I had a Waterpump that broke the impeller, it would still somewhat spin. No play still tight, but had sheared inside. Only got hot on hills. Aside from a stuck thermostat, had a plugged up radiator would do the same. Now new 4 row stays nice and cool. American radiator copper about $950, bought tank separate for another $200. Little bit cheaper that way.

Get a ex. temp. gage put in instead of a plug so you can see how hot its getting?

Plugged rad will explain temp, but not fuel milage.

Excessive black smoke, melting stuff and running hot. Either you've got a boost leak, exhaust/intake restriction or you're getting way too much fuel into a cylinder/cylinders.

How's the valve lash and injector height? Set correctly?

    Rideandrepair and j.r.1981 Thank this.

There is a 1" rubber line that connects the air compressor inlet to the intake manifold. Make sure it has not ruptured. I have seen that rubber line fail on several engines and it always seems to rupture on the side facing the engine so it is easy to miss.

Detroit in sparks,nv put the injectors in and ran overhead. They said it would fix my problem but it didn't. I've had it in 3 Detroit shops and they haven't got it right yet. I guess I'll just start throwing parts at it in the driveway and see if I can figure it out.

I bought this truck because my 2017 cascadia blew up at 700k...I thought I would have less problems with this one hahaha! It's a good truck, just has almost 1mil miles on it and some things fixed. I'll get it right eventually.
