Yes I talked to recruiting and she said they are not hiring in MI. at this time. I didn't tell her I was only an hour from Toledo,Oh. It may have made a difference I really don't know. They have my Zip and I'm sure they checked it out.
I talked to Roehl quite a while ago. They don't let you bring the truck home and the nearest terminal is Gary In. which is about 4 or 5 hrs. away.

Yes, I think I'm catching on alright. I'm heading out with my trainer tomorrow so I'll be doing a lot more driving. I need some practice backing up but I'm sure I'll get better at it in due time.

Most all the drivers I've talked to around the Richfield terminal seem to be happy with the company. Some swear they are the best they have ever worked for. Who's on your short list?

Since I've only been off 2 weeks so far I'm sticking to other LTL and private carrier company trucks. This week was not a good time for anyone to look for any job. Not much gets done with a mid week holiday. If nothing turns up by the end of next week, I will start filling out tanker apps./ food grade + hazmat.
Backing will come to ya. Just don't oversteer + don't pull up so far when you gotta reset/ you see a lot of that. If you have a good trainer he may touch on that if he sees it. Best of luck and don't give up.

How long from the point you applied until you were notified you were accepted and how long from the time you applied until your first day? Just wondering if this process takes months and months and I should get going on it now. It would actually work out best if I could start in the spring.

Millis holds approved apps for 4-6 months (depending on whom you speak to there).

I guess the average from application to approval/denial is 2 weeks. It is suggested that you contact a recruiter over the phone 1st for preliminary questions/answers - then apply online - then 24hrs later, call them to verify receipt.

They need to verify MVR and current employment.

In my case, since I know several people at Millis, I was approved in 1 day. But, there was only 1 class for orientation in Milwaukee for 2009 and I didn't have enough time to give my notice and attend it. I am hoping for a new class schedule for 2010.

So if they pick you and slate you for a class you aren't able to accomodate they don't drop you? They'll let you start at a later date? I was afraid they'de toss my application out in the garbage if I couldn't make the first date they threw at me.

Once you get the "WELCOME TO MILLIS" email, then you are to contact "so-and-so" and schedule a training date. When you schedule a training date (for MTI) you put down $100 to hold your spot and then $400 is due on the 1st day. I don't know what happens if you cant attend. I would suspect it is handled on a case by case basis.

This is presuming you need training. If you have 1yr or more CURRENT OTR, they will hire you w/o their training. If you dont have that (like in my case..) you need to attend MTI school. I have my CDL, but attending MTI school is required. $2500 and a promissary note/contract to pay them back.... There are many threads on that though. They will not accept students from other schools, unless you did that and then have been out the last 12months OTR.

Give Millis a call and ask to speak to a recruiter. I am sure she can answer any questions you have and when they have MTI school setup (OH is the closest to you) for 2010.

I dealt with Alice in Recruiting. She was very helpful.

    Awesome Jim...good luck! :biggrin_25525:

    Alice is in driver recruiting.
    DeeAnn schedules training.
    Ellan answers the main number.

..all awesome and friendly people when I met them last month..
Everyone that walked by me seemed to go out of their way to say
HELLO...Being from NY, I found that a bit odd, but nice!

I must agree with Hanadarko. Everyone I have met is very friendly and willing to take time to talk with you and answer any questions you may have. I have just started my third and final week at MTI in Ohio. I am learning alot. We just returned from a trip to Richfield. All the students (4 of us total) got a lil drive time to get the feel for driving OTR.

Orientation is next week .....then out with a trainer.

Looking forward to this new adventure.
