ok the other route:
-Go west on i90 to highway 81 south follow all the way through Nebraska.
-Continue south on 81 until you hit i70 in Salina Kansas. Go west on i70
- at Highway 156 go south towards Ellsworth.
-in kinsley take highway 50 west.
-dodge city take 283 to the 400 to 283 south
-that will take you to highway 54 south through Oklahoma and Texas. all the way to tucumcari, NM
-in tucumcari, NM you hit the i40.
It’s a mixture of 1 lane and 2 lane roads. All the roads are flat and straight and 65, except for in towns of course. There are plenty of stops that can accommodate trucks. Just plan accordingly and it will be a peaceful ride.Truckermania, Trucker61016, Hammer166 and 1 other person Thank this. -
My 2 cents
90 w to kadoka
73 s to 20w in Lusk
18/20 w to I-25 n to Casper
220 thru muddy gap to 287 till Rawlins
80 w to SLCLast edited: Mar 21, 2021
Truckermania and Trucker61016 Thank this. -
Especially for someone who may never get there again, US83 north of I-80 in Nebraska is a must see. The Sandhills are a unique sight. Although I'd suggest taking US183 south to US18 west to US83 south. The stretch of 83 from Murdo to Mission is not in the best shape and under construction.
I don't know that I'd drop all the way to 54 unless weather dictated, but I'm also someone who runs I-70 west of Denver on a regular basis. And that's surely not for everyone, but also a drive everyone should do at least once.Last edited: Mar 21, 2021

I love that stretch from Denver to Rifle in the summer time. Sometimes traffic drops off and im only truck it feels like out there, then utah through the dragon tail Incline is very desolate sometimes......Hammer166 Thanks this.

I don't get west of Grand Junction much nowadays, but yes, I love it out there from Green River to Salina. Even 20 years ago, when I-80 wasn't quite the cluster it is now, and you could run Provo Canyon with a 53, you could turn Beaver to Big Springs in the same time over either route. And I'd much rather deal with some grades than the overpowering stupidity that dominates 80. And for sure the scenery is better!Trucker61016 Thanks this.

Dennixx Thanks this. -
Fixed it for you: Hwy 83 runs from Murdo thru the NE Sandhills down to I-80

Yeah thanks. Total brain fart. I was thinking about 81 routing in another post.
I can drive those roads in my sleep, probably have once or twice! -
I’m considering taking this route. Planned it out already. Not sure if it’s the fastest route there but might as well check out the scenery. You think I should take the 183 to 18 because of construction then?
-
Yes. North of White River is rough, and there's a short stretch of hard pack that might be soft after the snow last week. There is a scale pullout at 18 &183 to check on if you're worried about that. It's a couple miles shorter, too.
