When you take your truck at any truck repair/service shop, do you personally inspect the work being done before leaving? Plenty of these shops their employees are slacking off, doing lousy job. My experience: had an oil change, the wire sensor on the filter wasn’t connected back, my friend’s truck, his oil filter was loose, oil was leaking, he didn’t noticed it until after driving 1,000 miles and about 7 gallons of oil gone. He got lucky, he’s engine didn’t fried.

I went to a shop to get an oil change and lube few years back, I was extremely busy so I decided to let a shop do it instead of myself doing it. When the service was completed, I looked over on what was done, they missed certain lube spots(driveline) etc. They went over the whole truck again but the point was it wasn’t done the correct way. Never went back again.
Speed_Drums, slow.rider, John E Walker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Your friend drove 1000 miles and never stopped? Seems like there should have been a pre/post trip in there somewhere. That much oil should have left a lot of oil underneath that truck.Bean Jr., JolliRoger, Cowboyrich and 10 others Thank this.

I always try to watch them if they allow it, sometimes I need to be sleeping tho. I usually try to get my preventative maintenance done while on home time and I don’t watch my companies mechanics.
It’s a good way for me to learn about the truck and trailer mechanically.JolliRoger and slow.rider Thank this. -
Just avoid going to a T/A for any kind of service. They'll forget something, and it will wind up costing you a lot more than what you went in for.

I always try to limp it home. As for regularly scheduled service, if i’m not doing my own work i go to a trusted shop/mechanic. You can’t just throw a dart at the phone book to choose a shop, you have to do your homework first.
slow.rider Thanks this.
