What type of coverage do I need just to be able to take my truck to the shop and back. Don't want to risk getting it impounded or towed

Thanks for the response. But I have spoken to two different agents today and they said I can't get it unless I'm leased to a carrier. I explained to them that I'm working on the truck at the moment and not trying to haul freight. Getting it road ready.

Might be cheaper to just have it towed to the shop.

How far is the shop? I’d just drive it there if it’s within a reasonable distance!

Non trucking liability is what I have through progessive. About 800 / year.

Non trucking liability covers you when moving NOT under dispatch, other wise you would be covered by the carrier's coverage, In 43 years, I haven't seen a NTL cover anything. That's why you need to be leased...
Bobtailing has nothing to do with it IF you were under dispatch.
Had a guy arrive AT 0800. Plant says stuff won't be ready till 5; drop the tank under the spiller and go sleep in the shade. He decides to bobtail out for a good breakfast as it looks like it's gonna be a long night.
Bobtailing back he bumps a car that starts to go and re-stops. We paid, not his NTL
One of my owner operated box trucks isn't dispatched, goes for oil change. On his way back gets sideswiped by a Mercedes who blew around him a the right turn to keep from following him. Claims Bodily Injury and his NTL says 'not our problem, getting the truck serviced is under the carrier's insurance.... W H A T ! ! !
Our insurance goes to a NJ insurance NYL specialist and there is precedent. We are covering this one...iledbett Thanks this.
