Nah, don't hate it, I'm discovering the previous owner ran it real heavy and hard. I just replaced a couple brake canisters on the front due to diaphragms failing and found out the s-cam bushings need replaced. Figured before I sink more $$ into it, I'd shop it around a bit and see what happens. No decisions yet.

That beats crossmembers and compressors at least.
Gears Thanks this. -
Do you guys ever have problems with resale on these funky length trailers? That is all I would be afraid of..
Oh and California.. Isn't there a legality issue when you break 48' on a widespread? -
I don't run CA currently. Last time I did which was this past summer, I pulled a '48 spread and had no issues. I think the CARB stuff kicks off in 2010, yet more incentive more me to stay out of Ahnolds State.
As far as sales go, I think a '48 spread would retain more of its value than a '53 tandem. -
sorry, I worded it wrong.
When you go over 48' on a spread axle you run into trouble in California.
and by funky length I meant the non 48/53 trailers (46, 51, etc)
In fact a trailer manufacturer that is now non-existent put out a few 48' trailers that were actually 48'2" and I know of one owner that ran into trouble over it. -
He got his trailer measured by the DOT? What was trouble he got?
-
I saw a 54' stainless reefer on truck paper a while back. Never saw what advantage that would have. It was loaded with toys, spread, both axles were lifts. I kept checking to see if it was a misprint but it was listed like 3 times in the description.:smt102

It was 10 years ago, but if I remember correctly he was ticketed and then not allowed in CA.
California tried to disallow all trailers over 48', interstate commerce clause did not allow this. They made an exception for 53' trailers, although you still have to meet their bridge law.. so a widespread would be out unless you had a sliding rear axle, and the front axle set ahead. -
Yep another reason I think CA should be broken off and dumped in the ocean. "california spread". Sure your legal in every other state but their roads are special in CA. HA!
-
What are the legal dimensions of a Kaliphornia spread anyway?
Ah, nevermind, I will never need to know this... LOL!!!
