Any true trucking nomads out there?

It didn't work in my state either. That's why I got a box in a UPS store.

 

Dang man you guys are hard core! I envy the lifestyle.

I haven't had a "home" in over ten years. All my time in the oilfield and also over the road. I keep the little stuff I own at my parents house, which I use as my permanent address.

 

I'm sure they are on to that old truck by now. We live in an instant information age. AIN'T GONNA WORK!

When I was young and single and first starting out Trucking , I jumped into the deep end, had never even driven a truck before , bought a truck on a lease purchase deal, was renting a single wide trailer in a cow pasture . But since I was never there I just moved my few belongings to my parents house and used their address on my DL

and built a tiny shower in my truck, and bought the first electric cooler when they came out.
So with a shower and fridge , I literally lived in my truck.


had my credit card bills sent there and they paid them with my checkbook.

this was before the internet banking was available . Yep , I’m old .

I found a small local non chain bank that I mailed my settlement checks to and they deposited the money into several different accounts for me.
10% into one account for taxes , 10% into another for truck maintenance, 10% into savings , and the rest into my normal checking account .

The larger issue is you have no friends or family that would keep your stuff in a closet and let you use their address on your DL?

also, please look into a state vo tech or community college for the CDL class.

In My state it’s $1,600. And it’s a very good 13 week class.

I saved enough money in two years to buy a small shack on seven acres in the mountains near the North Carolina Tennessee Georgia border. I didn’t get to go there much but I just wanted some land to call my own, that was 28 years ago and even though I quit trucking to get a normal job so I could be around for my wife and children, I still own it and go there about one weekend a month.

 

I can confirm this. I switched residency to Deadwood, South Dakota in 2017 because I spent so much time on the road and was tired of paying state income tax for a state I’m never in. All they wanted was three pieces of mail with my name on it to my newly purchased post office box.

I had to drop my hazmat when I did this because there are added complications with that but it IS completely legal. Residency doesn’t mean you can vote, though - you need a physical address and not a PO Box for that.
